We had no runners at South Manchester this week, Tony did consider heading for SM but then ruled it out due to the round trip of roughly 40 miles there and back to his shop, with a covering of snow on the ground in Macclesfield and Wilmslow, Congleton was a good choice as the conditions there turned out to be excellent.
Also there were Alan T and Doddy sporting his knee support, we all agreed that it was just a warm up run for Kynpe Pool so no PB's to be posted…And none were!
I have been trying to work out what determines a fast course, Christleton is a fast 5k course as we run one and two third laps, the last third up hill so we run two down hill gradients and only one up. Burnage 5k isn't fast, there are a flight of steps to climb twice and three smallish up hill sections, there are down hill parts but due to the mud they don't seem to be an advantage.
Congleton and South Manchester are both flat, Congleton is laps which I prefer, South Manchester more a figure of eight route, both on good surfaces, SM surface better when dry. Come November we should get a good indication as to which is the faster, but until then just some statistics to think about.
Percentage of runners under 20 Mins . Congleton 7% . South Manchester 10% .
Percentage of runners under 23 Mins . Congleton 20% . South Manchester 29%.
Steve Feber braved Lyme Park, to register a 5K trail, I did think it may have been cancelled due to the snow.
