Cloud 9 is one of the year’s classic races. I find it challenging, long and hard.  Although mine wasn’t, I think many people’s times were better than last year’s but we have been flattered by the reduced numbers and significantly less time queuing at stiles.

It had been sunny in Wilmslow but a bitter wind blew around the Congleton Leisure Centre and then it felt warm at the start. Difficult clothing choices and indecision made it more like a strip than a running club.

Our Ladies’ team were the winners; Di, Louisa and Janine

The Men, I think, were third, someone please correct me; Allan, Jim, Tom.

Nicky has the Ladies’ prizes and a wide range of category prizes if you were not there to collect yours. I have a bottle of wine for Mike.

Allan, 15th., beat Jim, 16th. to the 100 points.  ‘Peter Pan’, Tom McGaff was 20th. and, of course, 1st. M60. Mike was 25th. narrowly ahead of Brian.  Phil was 50th.

Di was a superb second Lady, we were admiring her wide range of prizes on the way home. Then came Louisa, who likes this type of course and Janine who is happier on tarmac. They were followed by Huma, Nicky, Gail, Clare, Nina and Sarah.

Adam took the 60 points in League 2 with Matt second and Jarrod third.  Then came Richard, Jon, Louisa, Janine and Paul.

Huma having had a brilliant 2014 winning League 4, is not resting on her laurels, she led League 3 home, although it was close from both Geoff and Nicky. John, also newly promoted, was next then Patrick, Chris and Alan. Between them was Steve Russell, a rare, but welcome, sight.

John followed-up Knype Pool with another off-road win in League 4 with Gail an excellent second. Sharon had a recurrence of her ankle strain and barely lasted a mile and Clare had an awful fall hitting her chin on a rock. Once she got over the shock she continue, despite a lot of blood and a very painful jaw. I had an early battle with Simon and ended-up, as a result of others’ misfortunes, with more points than my running deserved.

Simon has already set his stall out for an immediate bounce-back; two Division 5 races, two wins. For part of the descent he trailed Don but manage to regain the lead in the latter stages. Nina was third and then Sarah and Trevor.

Trafford next week, no mud no hills. Warm and sunny.
