Even with Wilmslow closed and Stretford cancelled there were still Thirty-two Club Members ran a parkrun on Saturday. Or possibly 31!
A few loners about. PaulG returned to Stockport for the hills. Chloe braved the animals near Huyton. Tom went for the quiet castle run. He came 3rd. And was top AG. JB wasn’t alone he had a family run. A quick time for his first parkrun of the year. But his son beat him! Roy was testing his knee out by the Water. Hope it went well.
The J’s were at the Heath for Wimbledon weekend. The other travelling J’s went to Bath. Where they first timed.
With Closures and Cancellations, the WAGs had only Alderley to run. Seven chose to run.. Mike was our first finisher Steve, first timing made the Top 10 too. Rachel also first timed. Andy PB’d and was top on AG too. Janet slowly getting back to running after her lay off.
As for the Squires: Kate was second lady home at Lyme park where she hasn’t run for 4 years. Top AG too. Other Squires were at Bramhall where Ex Member [?] Vincent was 33rd to finish. Steve managed to pip Paul. Nicky and Don on an away day – their first visit this year.
There were Freshers out as well. A few quickies ran at Didsbury. Andrew – 3rd home – and Dave first timed. Markus PB’d. At South Manchester more speedsters – James first timing was 5th with his fastest ever parkrun and an AG of over 80%. Also first timing were Mark, Ashley and Nic. Mark pipped Ashley by 2 seconds to finish in the top 10. Nicola – first lady home 😊 Graham and Rebecca also under 20 minutes. Nic and Graham also had AGs of over 80%. Graham with his fastest run this year!
Just two Slick runners out at the Fast Track. Matt PB’d. Tracy had a great AG [84.92%] – but the Alexandra has a lot of good runners about – and she was only 6th on AG!
Just leaves me! A week of walking , drinking and eating to prepare the body. And an aching back too! I risked, with rain and wet ground, going to Cheadle for a sub-30 attempt and slipping. Wasn’t blowing after the initial start loop. Positive! Then again I could be running slower.. Negative! ☹. Knowing the course is a long 5k, I’d set my watch to run 5.2k in 29:30. That way if it beeped to say I had lost I knew I’d 30 seconds to rectify it. Felt good. Confident. But forgot it was a 3 lap course until two speedsters passed me as I was on my second lap. Were they late? As we approached the end of the lap – the runners in front went right for another lap. Damn! Third lap harder. Dug in and overtook 2 runners. Entered the field after lap 3. A quick glance and I worked out I possibly might break 29 minutes. Forgot about the hill. Tough. Concentrated on the guy ahead. Pushed it. He could hear my breathing as we turned into the finishing straight 😊. He pushed on. I almost kept with him. Nice to see him blowing hard as he finished! 😊 If he thought I was racing I wasn’t [sort of]. My watch said 29 minutes dead! ☹ I had achieved my main goal though. Just Woodbank and Lyme to revisit for sub-30 now.
Rewarded myself with a posh bacon and egg sandwich. Then the parkrun text 28:59!! Yeah! So good they then sent it to me. They must have seen my disappointment when observing my watch at the finish. So they sent my result 6 more times. And again on Sunday.
