Well our cuddly Grizzly Colin couldn’t resist a trip south to taste some beer. Sadly the ‘beer’ provided on the course turned out to be ‘Beer Water’ – natural mineral water sourced from the village of Beer
Warming up on Saturday morning with a local parkrun – with a time of 15 seconds off his PB. Our club vest was very popular at the Torbay parkrun, it’s the same colours as the Ukraine flag. One guy even had a selfie with Col!
On Sunday, Colin was greeted with some fine weather.
Smiling at Mile 16. Laughing towards 20 when the final whistle went at the Emirates. Col did great.

Some Race information about the race in case it has tickled your imagination.
The Grizzly is a multi-terrain race across the glorious East Devon coastline and countryside and the major event in the calendar of Axe Valley Runners. Starting in Seaton the Grizzly has more than 3,000′ ascent in its 20 miles. There are two sections of beach, totalling well over a mile; two energy-sapping bogs, where runners are often up to their waists in water and mud; and the infamous “Stairway to Heaven”, a steep path up the side of a cliff (take care if you suffer from vertigo). Some of the descents are steep and often very slippery, so please take care. It will take roughly your road marathon time, perhaps longer if conditions are grim.
This year we have taken further steps towards becoming a more environmentally friendly event. This is now a cup-free event (so please carry your own bladder pack or bring a reusable cup to be filled around the course). Also, no free race t-shirts will be given out to runners at the end of the event. We will again be using biodegradable marking tape around the course. Finally, we have introduced multiple-use polyester marshal bibs instead of single-use plastic bibs. We hope to make further changes in the years ahead, so please help us in our drive towards an environmentally friendly Grizzly.
