The hills were alight with the sound of some of our members running last Saturday
The Downs family and Andy were up in the Cumbrian hills near Tebay
No recces were permitted on leg 1. All courses (apart from Leg 2) were flagged. If anyone was caught reccying these areas their team could be disqualified from the event.
The racing was over rough ground with a mix of tussocks, bogs, rocks and other assorted hazards, including river crossings. Some of the hillsides were extremely steep and the descents could be treacherous.
Pairs ran legs 2 and 3.
Rob and Andy Ran for Cheshire Hill runners. His daughters ran for Dark Peak
Leg 2 – was a Navigation course- 10km with a climb of 700m. Rob Ran this. Following the flagged route for the start 350-400m to collect maps; Both runners had to stay together (within 20m) at all times. Once they reached the final checkpoint they then followed the flagged route to the finish.
Leg 3 – was a flagged 10.3km course with a climb of 940m. Andy ran this as did Rob’s daughters.
They had Various hills to ascend and descend and the odd stream/gyll to cross with care
Helm hill, the home team, had an advantage first in the ladies and 7th in the mens open competition.
Dark Peak Women’s A finished 7th – Juliet and Ellen ran their leg in 1:34:22.
