It’s a 5-6 mile hill run around the Dane Valley and Gradbach including the infamous ‘river crossing’ – the route varies each year depending upon which local farm is hosting the fete. Runners receive a trout for their endeavours (as well as a lot of tea and cake)!
Beer, trout, views, a river crossing, Luds Church. What more could anyone want. And with fishing now becoming a sport for the ladies – Carolyn and Julie joined a few of our chaps who like a bit hilly, muddy running. Roll on XC season.
An old face was also spotted!
That’s a reminder. Please register for XC by next Monday.

Local Report below:
I’m sure you’ll all agree that it was another great race, made possible by the hard work of the race committee, the cooperation of the local farmers, the goodwill of marshals, time keepers and trout givers from both Wincle and Macclesfield Harriers, the support of Buxton Mountain Rescue, Raynet, with tea and cake from the WI and not forgetting the memories recorded by Bryan Dale and his photographers.
Thanks also to our generous sponsors: Wincle Brewery for copious amounts of beer, Running Bear for prize vouchers and Topspeed Couriers. 270 started with 2 retirements and a few grazed knees
The men’s race was won by Stockport’s Steve Vernon in 39:40, 22 seconds ahead of Fraser Macdonald Oulds (Chorlton). Third place went to Macc’s Simon Harding The ladies’ race was won by Lucy Bednall in 51:52. Lucy won the Junior Race in 2018 and 19 – the extra distance and larger field haven’t put a stop to her winning ways! Second lady home was Staffs Moorlands Wendy Swift (W50, 55:38) followed by Macclesfied’s Kathleen O’Donnell (W40 56:31)
A computer glitch initially gave the men’s team trophy (and beers) to Macclesfield and the true victors, Chorlton Runners, left the prize giving empty handed!!!.
