Well even with a chilly Sunday we had a grand turnout at the Stockport 10 miler. Our runners had partied Friday and some had even parkrun’d Saturday. Well eleven of our runners did. Including several Friday Award winners. Not sure the thermals the Paul’s were contemplating were necessary or not. It’s a good challenging course. I have done it 5 times in the past and even packed their goodie bags a few times. Such strange things I remember: mealy worms, fishing flies!!
Nicola had a great run and Tim was our only category winner with a PB, We also had two runners with 2nd place in their category – Nicky just over a minute off 1st and PaulN – well at least he pipped his running partner PaulG – those Friday night orange juices worked for him. Andrew coming back from injury put in a very strong run – 90 seconds of his last attempt and only 2 minutes off a category 1st. He even had time to practice his ventriloquism on the way round.
Jan PB’d too! Laura lost her head but recovered it by Mile 7 to lead Colin home! A great effort by Huma and nice to Rachel back again. Anyway enough from me. Now a real report by the one of our runners – Nicky:
I thought I would sign up for the Stockport 10 ‘under the radar’ and if the weather was inclement in the morning I could have opted out. However various other WRC members had signed up , many at the last minute, and when I committed to giving Jan a lift there was no going back.
It was pretty chilly but after a warm up I decided to strip off and ran in just my WRC short sleeved top and knee length shorts. Headband and gloves were soon stuffed in various parts of my body. The course had changed a little since I had last run the race. You now go down farm tracks which was a relief after running single file along a main road. It is not an easy course with two hills, one at five miles and another towards the end at eight miles leading back into the park.
There were some familiar faces , ex members of WRC , including Gail and Christian as well as Altrincham runner Carol with whom I battled all the way round.
The event was very well organised, with plenty of marshals, environmentally friendly paper cups along the route and at the end a biodegradable goodie bag. As well as a medal we received a short sleeved t-shirt (seems to be a good fit) and sox.
We had some good results. Nicola was 5th lady. Tim got a PB. Paul and I were 2nd in our age categories. The main result was that we had built up a good appetite for Christmas lunch afterwards!

Well done everybody.
