It may have been MACCL Match 2 and Remembrance day but we had thirty-five Club members running at eleven Parkrun Events this Saturday. Several events had less than normal runners out.
Some runners were doubling up with XC. Pacing, walking, stretching. Or just taking it easy.
Tim was doing his monthly Conga. It keeps you fit. Trevor was doing his own recce at Wythenshawe. Paulo doing his Italian thing. This time in Rome. And Oliver took Sharon to Bury for her to first time
The Series-ous runners were out too.
Soloist Squire Mark at Bramhall; Nic and Don at Lyme, where Don had an Season Best [SB] and Nicky a Season first run here – but 2nd on AG.
Freshers AndrewC and [first timer] DaveT chose South Manchester to run/stretch their legs. At Didsbury RichardH was back as was Jan with a SB. Nice to see Lady C running too.
The Slickers were back at the Alex Race Track hoping lasts week’s scanning problem wouldn’t reoccur.
9 club members there. Qes PB’d by 9 seconds. JP had a season’s best. Huma pacing again.
The WAGS were out too. Ivan – still a member? – second home at Alderley with a PB. Susan continuing her rehab with another 24-minute run. Ten at Wilmslow, where it was back to the normal course and Ladies Day too: Di first club member home, closely followed by our Travelling Hillbilly. Richard stretching his legs. Ella Pacing and dog walking, Mrs B and Janet [Top AG]. Rachel leg stretching and undercover Rebecca Tail tailing.
Me , I was quietly confident I may get an SB on the way down, but then had concerns as I slithered down the hill leading to the Start. This concern increased when I got boxed in at the start by a pram and an elderly runner effectively blocking any progress until after the bridge. The 30 minute pacer was 70 metres ahead! Then We had puddles to run by; mud too– lots of it – I looked ahead and the 30 and 27 minute pacers were still a fair distance ahead. Half way back to the second hill I went past the 30 minute pacer. And tried to push on slightly. The next spanner in the works was the second hill – the one I slithered down running to the start – we had to run on the grass for the slippery section. Both up and down. Gauging my distance at the top of the hills I reckoned I was 48 seconds, then 44 and then 45 seconds behind him. Ignoring the times, I just pushed on to the finish. Almost getting embroiled in a sprint finish. So I avoided a three-person crash at the finish line. Finishing well out of breath. The morning got worse I got my ID out. It looked strange. It had 66 or was 99 on it. Shit. It was my finishing token from last week! I must have dropped my ID in their collection bucket!! Oh dear I’ll have to run that dam hill again very soon! :0 Still luckily I carry a spare ID. A busy day ahead no breakfast and coffee reward this week. Pleasant surprise when the parkrun text came in. An SB by 12 seconds!
