More catching up for me. So, here is another very quick look at your activities from this Saturday when 42 club members ran at 14 different parkrun events.
It’s Cross-Country season very soon. Saturday saw Paul and Janine forgo Bramhall and take on Wythenshawe. At Bramhall, Barry was 3rd to finish and top AG. Gareth registered his first run here this year.
Rebecca first timed at Heaton [their 600th parkrun] – testing the hills? First lady finisher too. Kathryn – a season ticket holder – was back at Lyme. Another sub-30 [Must use her as a pace when I take my sub-30 challenge on! 😊]. Lewis PB’d. Steve and Laura were other first timers out; they chose South Mcr to run. Rachel got a PB there.
At Congleton, Tim had his quickest run there in 2023 and had a good AG too. JD was back at the Palace. Graham and Victoria were again in North Manchester – revisiting the Woods. Victoria got a PB. Chloe first timed there.
At Didsbury: Jim pipped Richard to be first club member to finish. Both close to their PBs. Jim top AG. Nic was Mr Consistency as usual. Alan getting his run there this year.
At the race tracks: Rob got a PB at Stretford.; Mike returned to run there after a 4-year absence – he ran sub-20 for the first time since May. Russia may have had their Catherine the Great some years ago, but today we have Kate the Great. Just 9 seconds off Jackie Cordingley’s Age Category record. Kate ran her fastest time since 2009! Top AG. Nic and Don ran the course again. Both improved their previous weeks’ time. Don by 100 seconds. Nicky second on AG. Qes first club member to finish but Unsure about mum – pacing or resting.
Another great achievement by one of club members was down in Cornwall. Returning to Cambourne after 4 years. Roy the Achiever, after months of trying, finally ran sub-30. Hopefully pain-free. Expect to see him at one of the race tracks next Saturday
Alderley was chosen by Peter to stretch his legs to first time. Unsurprisingly he was first to finish, broke the Age Category record and was top AG. Mark PB’d. Newcomer Gary had his first ever parkrun.
That just leaves Wilmslow where 8 club members ran. Including me! Who had chosen to stay local after my North Cape jaunty. Not expecting a fast run with 12 days of large Norwegian Meals and lots of their beer too – possibly weighing me down. I decided for a laugh I’d keep in view the 26 minute pacer in that I’d spotted. That lasted 1k! 5:11 so would have been on target. My body changed down a gear. Then I’ noticed JP – he was frequently checking his watch for something: Directions, Pacing or just Inspiration? Who knows. Anyway I closed the gap after the Running Club Hill. A wicked idea came to mind. After a few hundred metres I passed him with a “Good Morning John” AND SMILE! 😊
True to form. JP whizzed past me after a further 150 metres. It’s a few years since I have been able to wind up a fellow club runner. I Quite enjoyed it 😊. No PBs at Wilmslow – but I had a SB by nearly 30 seconds! Celebration required: Greggs sausage balm. Nice ending to a park run
Anything or anyone missed – please add a comment.

Thanks for your kind words Patrick. Huma was pacing some friends -and tapering for Chicago Marathon in a couple of weeks. She will then only have Boston left to do of the majors!
Thank you Patrick for an excellent summary as always. In addition thank you for disturbing my slumber at Wilmslow parkrun. There was something wrong with my watch as it wouldn’t go below 8 minutes and 45 seconds per mile!
