A busy Easter weekend for Wilmslow Members parkrunning!! Thirty-seven members ran at 14 events.
As it is Easter weekend – so a brief look at the results. 😊
Graham and his Missus first-timed in Sheffield. Andrew had a quick one in Congleton. JD back at the Pally. Speedy J could have gone plane spotting as he ambled around East Grinstead and still finished first.
The theatre runners returned to the home of the Bard. No PBs but very good AGs – both over 80%. It was Grahams 100th parkrun and he wasn’t too far off beating his 2017 PB. Janet was 3rd on AG. A local lady runner Kate had an AG of over 100%!
Rebecca was at the Etihad testing her toes. Must be getting better. First lady finisher. RichardL left the country to chase red squirrels! If it wasn’t for First timers and PBs he would have come 3rd!! Sadly, this was not the case. 😊. Leaving the country but not crossing water were Gareth and Victoria – they preferred the beach as background – and Gareth PB’d! Victoria with her quickest run for a while not too far off hers.
And the WRC race Parkrun series?
Slickers:
Just Dave at the Grand Prix track. He PB’d by over 40 seconds.
Country Squires:
There was no first place this week for Barry. Even though he ran quicker than last week when he did finish first. He was third behind two young whippets. Paul and Janine back on home soil. The Gentlemen’s Brigade chose Bramhall to visit this week. A struggle for Roy. A consistent 28 mins from Ian and top in his AC. He has now completed both of the Squires courses. No one at this week at Lyme Park. So, moving on.
WAGS
A half dozen club members at both events.
At Alderley, Nic first lady to finish. Mike , a top ten finisher. Tom a PB by 20 seconds. Steve just missed his. Nicky a few more seconds off hers -but top on AG. [Tom was second and Nic 4th on AG]. Don ran too .
Back in Wilmslow. Ashley first on his 100th Parkrun. Jim 8th. Louisa second lady finisher. GrahamD , Andy and Rachel (😊) – thank you. Also ran. Andy and Louisa were 2nd and 3rd on AG.
Freshers:
Five went to Didsbury: I thought for a second we had a GB Tri running. But it was just a young lad who came first. Sue got a PB. Alan out testing himself?
Lastly the PG to the Power of 2 was felt at South Manchester. Having got out of the car – early for a change – I didn’t see many cars! Easter Saturday? Something on? Luckily I espied a wrapped-up, gloved and hatted young man not far away. Conversing whilst feeling the cold and regretting the choice of short-sleeved top; let alone no gloves and hat; Paul informed me that the start wasn’t here and the course was different to 2016 or whenever I last ran here!! Half a lap of the lake as warm up I met him near the start. Couldn’t hear the director. But when everyone turned around and started to walk toward me; I realised that I was at the start and not near the back. So I had to shuffle back through the fast runners! Off we went. Target sub-30! It was a bit crowded at the start. In fact the first one kilometer was busy until it had thinned out a bit. Counting my 1K credits whilst puzzling out the new [to me] course I was happy and not too cold. 27 Seconds Credit [1k]; then 31 and 42! So, 90 seconds in credit at 3k. The potential of Sub-28! Seemed to be on. Definitely not feeling cold now. Also I began to recognise bits of the course – but seem to be running in the opposite direction than the last time I was here. I thought I’d just keep/increase my pace. But found the Credit for the 4th K definitely harder and I was only 23 seconds under 6 minutes. So I might only just make the sub-28.
Positive thoughts. No coffee or breakfast reward here today. Straight back home to a dog walk!! Increase steps turnover. Slowly go past a few runners. Nice view of the finish ahead. Turn into finishing straight and attempt to move up a gear. But no fuel left in the tank and hang on as younger and faster runners approach. Finish. Must be sub-28 can’t see watch. Need to sync with my phone that is in the car. No Paul! Must be doing warm-downwn. Something I should be doing. Plus stretching. But out of breath! Slowly findmy jacket on the tree I’d left it by. In the car park. Some water. Spot Paul leaving. Not as fast as he’d liked to have run. Me I was thinking it could be approaching my best time since Hip operation [BSHO]!!
Home and phone sync. Fastest run since operation. Also sub-27!!! Only 1 second slower than my my May 2019 Parkrun time!!! Pleasantly knackered. Hope I don’t limp into my yearly review and hip sign off on Tuesday.

Patrick, what a great run at South Manchester, sub 27! You really are coming back to form, long may it continue. Yes, I struggled at Bramhall. My left knee has got progressively worse and a recent x-ray shows further deterioration, plus some inflammation. The next step is probably a steroid injection. Added to the knee I had a cold following the WRF weekend, so running has been minimal. Finger crossed I can make some progress over the next few weeks.
All round the rest of the club continue to impress with their ParkRun performances.
Thank you Roy! I found it amazing when I found out the time. Not sure how much more it will improve. Just got signed off this afternoon by my Hip Surgeon. Back to the NHS now if I get a problem! He did warn me running would wear out the hip quicker – but that’s why I paid for Titanium 🙂
Hope you can get some relief and more running in before your knee needs sorting!
