Though it was the last Cross Country match in the MACCL series and the second race in the WRC Race Series there were still 21 club members who ran at 10 events.
Down at the Palace JD put in a brisk performance. Staying in the Capital – Qes ran sub-20 in the East end. Hist fastest parkrun since 2021. The Pauls went Solo – doing their own version of Cross Country.
Whilst in South Cheshire, Victoria and Gareth first timed with 3 laps of the lake 😊. Rebecca first timed at the Rugby Club in Loughborough. [Then she ran in the afternoon for Cheshire in the UK Inter-counties XC -at Loughborough; as did Richard!]
Now for the Serie-ous runners. A Bakers Dozen of you this week.
Just one Slicker. Steve at Stretford. Steve – and just one second off his PB!
The remaining were evenly split across the WAGS events.
At Alderley – Jim was first club runner home and 3rd overall. Mike and Sharon top 10 finishers too. Sharon first Lady to finish. Mike and Ian closing in on their 250th soon. Ian stretching his legs for the afternoon. Richard and Oliver also ran.
In town another six members ran Wilmslow. I chose to run there too as my prayer for an ice-postponement failed. So my aching back and sore ankles chose to do the Wilmslow Dinosaur parkrun at Carrassic Park! Too cold for shorts I chose to leave my leggings on and wondered what the chance to break 30-minutes would be. Not too optimistic really. Starting halfway back and keeping out of the way of the prams and dogs. A slow start confirmed my breathing wasn’t good, A bit forced. Easing my way along, keeping the 31 minute pacer in sight I saw oncoming runners returning after their first loopback. I espied an Andro-patasaurus. I thought I also saw a Nicolopdus – but didn’t spot her result – so I must have been mistaken. Then there was a BigAl-osours before I felt the breath of an Adult Rex blowing down my ear. Was it trying to hunt me down? I pushed on before spotting a friendly J-Papalopdus. I slowly went past Colin the pacer and increased my pace slightly. Nic on marshal duty offering support. With 1k to go I could see the 30-Minute pacer about 70m in front. Pushed a little harder and closed slightly. He had a 20 second advantage at the top of the last hill,. A careful decline, a careful bridge crossing. One glance at the watch tells me here’s hope. Change gear, control breathing and gait and here goes! By a few seconds crossed the finish under 30 mins and out of breath. Spot a Scana-saurus hiding in the trees and bump into the Rex. He’s really friendly. Struggling to get back to fitness like me!!
Remember. If you have run a parkrun this weekend and do not appear here. Check your profile and ensure you have Wilmslow RC as your club.

I think I am ‘Rex’. I didn’t realise Patrick was there until the first climb up to the Rugby Club turning point. As I was descending Patrick was coming up behind me. I thought “this is going to be a challenge”. I managed to maintain my lead up the second climb towards Hawthorn Lane, but on reaching the middle bridge in the Carrs Patrick came alongside, then opened a gap which just got wider as we returned to the finish. He did well to break 30 with me just over a minute behind. As Patrick says we are both trying to regain fitness.
