Wilmslow Members Parkrun results 25th February 2023

The nationals cross country championship was this Saturday. But there was still a  big turnout by Wilmslow Club Members at Saturday’s Parkruns. We had about 29 runners at 13 Events.

In Wales Lewis, after a 4-year absence, PB’d. Victoria and Gareth returned to Heaton Park. But no PB this time. Mike was back in the Lakes.

Solo’s: JD getting quicker this year at the Pally. Roy was out  testing his hamstring at Burnage. Andrew was in Steel town. A fantastic 4^th place. Not sure if he has a relative who first timed there – if he has then she’s fast too! RichardL took to the Water.

Colin first timed at South Manchester. He’s now consistently a 20-minute man. Tracy and Nic ran too. A fantastic AG from Tracy – but not top. A VW70-75 lady manged over 96%!

Wilmslow had 5 runners out. Rebecca chose to be tail walker to save energy for the afternoon.

The C’s were split by IanS and Andy. Janet got a PB and was top on AG. The Breakfast Boys were back running at Didsbury.

At Alderley Ashley first timed and was 3^rd overall. The J’s turned out. GarethT in such fine form at the moment  PB’d by over 2 minutes.

It was busier at Alexandra Park. The Grand Prix circuit attracted 5 club runners, Seeking a fast time perhaps? Unfortunately, not.  Tim  first club runner home. PaulN won la battaglia dei Paolo, while Janine – after a 3-year absence – smashed through the AG ceiling with 81.26%. Her highest to date. Huma had her quickest parkrun this year.

My sub-30 challenge series came to an end with a crash!  Decided it would be nice to have a Cross Country experience and thinking I’d have a 50-50 chance of getting near it, I chose Cheadle. A promise to myself of a reward of Sausage Bap and Drink if sub-30 or a Latte sub 32 on the way there.  I arrived early for a change! Advised a lady walking around the car park with a backpack on that she was in the right place for a parkrun. I pointed her toward the meeting area. The grass felt a little softer than when I was last here. After the short lap, I was blowing hard and heavy in the legs! After 1k I was 8 seconds under target but realised things were not going to plan. The course was not jarring my legs but there was too much give and I struggled to overtake runners. I was sure there were some tweaks to the course from last year! By the third lap ,I was struggling to better last year’s time. The course always seems to be a little over 5k. I’d targeted the runner in front of me and tried to hunt him down. He’d had a 28-secondd lead at the final turn When it beeped 5k before I’d got back over the bridge for the final small loop I knew I might not improve on last years’ time. And so it proved. I reduced the gap to 12 seconds but had no real grip on the grass. Back at the car getting changed I saw the mud clinging to my shoes and cursed, vowing I wouldn’t be back here again until it is sunny and firm. My Watch showed  I’d run 1 second longer than last October. Management decision  made – I would  have a coffee and a Sausage Bap. 😊.

By the way the lady with the backpack looking for the parkrun had changed and I offered her encouragement as I passed her on my last lap. She had on her 500 parkrun T-shirt! It was her 546th.
