Some people like a good climb. A nostalgic favourite of club runners is the Whaley Waltz.
Due to the Whaley Bridge carnival not taking place, this year’s event had a new start. The race was a similar distance (5.6 miles) but as a bonus runners got an additional 100m of ascent (396m total) free of charge! Also a river crossing near the finish, was still be there!
Good run by Barry. Tom category first as well.
Robs view:
There’s so many great little fell races on our side of the Peak District. This classic takes a steepening route up to Windgather Rocks followed by an exhilarating run back down Taxal Edge. The “kicker” is a river crossing in the last 100m. This year the water was only just over knee deep but still attracted a large crowd of supporters enjoying the spectacle. Barry got away from me on the climb but then a wrong turn had him almost heading off towards Buxton – fortunately he’d recovered his lead before the river. It was great to see Adam and Tom back racing after injuries. Former member Mike Cooper nipped over from Switzerland to take part.

Well run Barry, Rob & Tom!
Good to see my old fellow Stockport Harrier Rob Taylor in the photo, who runs under ‘Pennine’ on the fells.
