We had 28 Wilmslow Club members running this Saturday at 12 Events. The weather conditions were much better this weekend for everyone! So we had some good results.
Graham turned up a week late for XC at Heaton Park!! His return after 3 years saw him run his fastest parkrun for ages. Third in his Age Category [AC} too.
Lots of other Solo runners out this weekend. PaulG at Woodbank with his fastest time since 2016; RichardL at Huddersfield with another quick time – but 1 minute slower than his 2018 time; Colin chose Lyme Park. Whilst at Wythenshawe, where the Unidentified Scarlet Pimpernel turned up again to win. Ian returned and was a little faster than in January. PaulN – no doubt having read about all the fast times our runners were having at Alexandra Park – first timed there with his fastest parkrun for ages and third in his AC. Last lone runner, Nicky, preferring the firm level paths of Osterley Park to the Ups and Downs of Parliament Hills, returned to PB by over 40 seconds and finish with the Top AG at tghe event.
The Breakfast Club captain was back in Warrington. On a Gourmet inspection of Shazza’s Breakfast Buffet? Also ran Carolyn first timed and Ex-member Sharon PB’d.
The Johnstone’s first timed at Dalby Forrest – Sharon 3rd Lady, second on AG and first in her AC – Oliver 3rd in his category.
The most popular events were at Stretford and Wilmslow. There were fast times at Stretford for all runners. Tim and Tracy were our first male and female finishers. Tim Pb’d by over 40 seconds on his 2018 time. Tracy first timed. Her fastest parkrun since 2018. Both were first in their ACs. Rebecca had her fastest run this year. Alan PB’d by over 25 seconds. Nic – first timing too – has broken his 24-minute hoodoo – he ran sub 24 for the 4th run on the trot. John was much quicker than his last visit there and first in his AC. Spotted a Frankie Bale running too – first in her AC. I wondered whether that was Jon’s daughter!!
Last one. Wilmslow. Ten Club runners ran. Though Don was actually tail ambling. A quick time from one of the new Coaches saw Richard finish [5th] as our First Club Member home. Robin was 7th. Jarrod and Mike after last weekend’s races finishing together. Just behind was James whose times have been consistent this year. As is Graham’s. Andy, usually a volunteer, chose to run this week and was top on AG at the event. A surprise runner was Tom – one of 3 XC runners from last week to turn out. Trevor also ran and is closing in on his 200th parkrun. Noticed SueH was top in her AC not far behind Charlie!.

Ian A and I opted for Sale Water ParkRun, but on arrival found it had been cancelled, so where to go in the 20 minutes before 9 o’clock? Ian chose Wythenshawe Park, which was on, and I chose Burnage, which was also cancelled! A very frustrating start to Saturday morning.
Some of the older members may recognise former WRC member, Darren Dunn, in the photo above. First time at Wilmslow parkrun finishing 3rd in 19:31 in a sprint finish. He’s clearly still got it!
Thanks Don, I must admit I missed the photo. Simon and I ran with Darren’s father Alec for many years. He was our coach and inspiration. He was a club road cyclist before becoming a fantastic Marathon runner. Most Sundays Alec would lead us on 20+ mile training runs at around 7:30 mile pace up hill and down dale. I would then eat a hearty brunch and have a Sunday afternoon snooze! Darren is a chip off the old block. I still see his Mum Shirley from time to time.
