We know that on Saturday we had brave runners out at parkrun and even braver – or is it madder – runners out for the final XC race at Heaton Park. But if you wanted exposure and hills then Mike chose his Hill in the Lakes to run his first race of the year.
The Loopy Latrigg was the last race in the Kong Winter Series.
Due to the tree felling on Latrigg earlier this year – they had to change their race route.
It was advertised as the fastest and most runnable of the series. Beginning at Keswick Fitz Park, crossing over the road and onto Spooney Green Lane, the route then traverses the length of Latrigg to emerge near the eastern edge by Brundholme road. From there, a fast climb along the main quad track to Latrigg Car Park followed by a steep climb to Latrigg summit and have your lungs bursting. You then descended back to Latrigg Car Park before flying down to Spooney Green Lane and sprinting into Fitz Park to finish.
A respectable 70th out of 204 finishers. His conclusion: “Must get fitter!”
