Shrigley Stagg Fell Race 2.30pm 26th June
Last Saturday saw the running of the much postponed Shrigley Stagg fell race. (I think Borg and McEnroe were battling it out at Wimbledon when I originally entered).
It was great to see a number of the familiar blue and yellow vests, although Sally decided to go incognito in her new designer running vest.
Car parking was at the Shrigley Hall hotel, race control was in the village behind the church and the start was near the old Nab brickworks which meant I was exhausted before the race got going.
The race was a really great route up towards Sponds Hill and charting a route around Lyme Park. Plenty of rough terrain, stiles, gates and the slight inconvenience of about 800 feet of climb made for the relatively slow times. My watch said 6.57 miles. Overall a really great local race and hopefully one for the Summer Series next year. (I can hear the flat 10k speedsters groaning already).
As per normal a number of excellent performances from the Wilmslow contingent but in particular Mike Hill the M55 category winner with Diane Bygrave and Jarrod Homer 2nd in their category.
