Injury Update

Apologies for the delay – the Mob Match has taken a fair bit of web time.

There’s not been much feedback this month. I’d like to think it is because we are all good and fit, but who really knows.

Richard Lawson:

Managed to give myself suspected extensor tendonitis by overtightening my sodden shoes.   Limping slowly back…

Oh, then ran the 1st mob match on it.   Rested it for a few days, tried a few tentative runs then destroyed it on the 2nd mob match.   Decided to give the 3rd one a miss!

Roy:

I had the results of the x-ray on my ankle which showed mild ‘wear and tear’ to the cartilage, but no other bone abnormalities. I am now pain free and running again which is great. Now trying to regain some fitness, endurance and speed (I use that term loosely!).

Hipperty: Can’t work out whether my injection is wearing off or whether my couch to potato workouts are beginning to tell. Achy knees now added to sore shin and adductors!! Still tried out a potential 5k flattish course in case needed for the Bury Mob Match – watch let me down and was happy with 5.2k I thought I’d run. Monday was then an awakener as the watch working this time and set to race 5k I ended needing another 2oom to actually complete it!! Still first 5k since October 2019!! 471 days earlier. Similarly I noticed Bill out running that week

Bill Heaton:
So……I’ve done my Mob Match v Bollington.  25:56!! It’s just under 10 minutes outside my PB and I’m delighted.

I gave up racing seven years ago after over 30 years of regular races. I’d grown bored with the process.

Four years ago I had a bad fall from a treadmill whilst being supervised ( yes, I successfully sued them) and damaged my pelvis and had a bad gash to my left shin.
Since then I’ve only been able to shuffle along as I’ve had a lot of pain in my lower back, hips, pelvis and groin.

I’ve seen five physios in that time, had MRI scans and x-rays and was finally diagnosed a few weeks ago with arthritis in my SI Joint. It’s a condition I’ll have to live with. The good news is that running doesn’t make it worse.

I joined RBRC and decided that it was time to deal with some of the things I can do…plenty of exercises to strengthen the affected area and yoga.

Things have improved and I decided to mark out a 5km circuit close to home for the Mob Match.

I just intended to jog around and I did no warm up, I was overdressed and I didn’t treat it as a time trial but set off a little quicker than my usual shuffle.
I haven’t done a sustained run in those seven years, and it felt like it but I decided to keep going until the pain slowed me. I was surprised that I managed to complete it without having to resort to the shuffle and do the time I did.

Jabbing

Ian had his a Saturday ago. Suffered with stiff arm. I

Me. Also that Saturday at Manchester Rugby Club. Didn’t notice anything during the day. Later realised later that if sleeping on that side the arm ached a little.

Roy was due one last Friday.

Peter had his 2 weeks ago.
