You may have missed this from Nick. So I am putting up on the web for you.
Hi Everyone,
I hope that we have all dusted ourselves down post defeat to Marple Runners…credit to them, they turned out in numbers!
As many of you will know, Ian Smallwood has been working in York for a number of years, but is back with us regularly at the club at the moment. Ian shared the below with me…
Over in York there is normally a 10km league, every 2 weeks there is 10km race. Last year it went to a virtual series…In 2021 the virtual series is planned again. It is a self service system based on facebook and google form – here are the rules.
A virtual summer league? Here’s some questions you may have:
- What is the format? There will be six 10k races between 26 April and 25 July 2021.
- Do I need to be a member of one of the clubs that takes part in the league? No. You can take part as an individual, a virtual running team or as a member of a club outside the league, or of course, as a member of a running club that normally takes part in the league.
- Do I need to pay? No. It’s completely free!
- Will I get an official time? No, unfortunately your time will not feature in your Power of 10 or runbritain profile. These are unofficial running events with the ethos being participation with some friendly competition.
- Do I need to run on the official 10k routes? No. Follow the government guidelines applicable at the time of the event. If you’d like to adopt some of the ‘challenges’ of the real courses by all means feel free to apply some innovation (the Bishop Wilton hill is about 790 stairs!)
- Can I run on a treadmill? Yes.
- Do I need to provide evidence of my time and distance (Strava, Garmin etc.)? No. We are trusting you to run an honest effort! You can of course share your runs within the group.
- Do I need to run at a set time on a specific date? No. Each event will typically be open for a week. You choose when you run within the event window to suit, just make sure you submit your time before the event closes!
- I’m not a member of a club, can I take part in the team competition? Yes. If you are not a member of a club or part of a club which only has a few members you can contribute to the ‘Unattached United’. You can also opt out of this (this will be an option on the results submission forms).
- How many races will there be and how many do I need to run to qualify for the series? There will be six 10k races. You’ll need to run at least 4 to qualify for the overall series. You choose which and how many events you’d like to take part in.
- How many runners are needed to qualify for the team standings? This will depend on number of participants, last year it was the top 3 runners from each team.
- How are the series standings calculated? This will be the cumulative of your best 4 times out of the 6 events.
- Will there be age categories? Yes. There will be age categories from 15 upwards in 5 year bands. We’ll also provide you with an age-graded result.
- Do I need to pre-register? No. However we will share a google form prior to the start of the league to capture details and to help with setting up our spreadsheets etc. But don’t worry you can also provide details during the course of the league via the google results submission forms.
- Are there any prizes or medals? No. Just kudos for taking part!
Two questions…what is the appetite?
Ian Smallwood can help with questions, but I am hoping that someone can take ownership of this please, and handle queries etc.
Thoughts?
Thanks all.
Regards,
Nick
