An Update from Cat and the team at WRF:
It’s a very challenging time to be planning a race but we’re keeping positive!
Everyone will be aware of all of the race cancellations and postponements over the last couple of weeks, which means that we continue to work with a great deal uncertainty. The timescales being discussed in the media are around 6 months, hopefully worse case scenario.
There is a risk that our current proposed date of 21st March may need to be delayed further and even if we can achieve it, the registration and planning period will be on a very short lead-time.
An important thing to say is that the WRF team is committed to putting on an event as soon as it’s possible to do so safely and with the backing of our local community.
In the meantime, we’re working on the following activities:
- A new website has been built and Patrick has kindly offered to help us maintain it
- We’ll shortly offer runners the option to reserve a place, in advance of officially opening the race for entries
- We’ll provide suppliers, sponsors, charity partners and runners with regular updates to keep them engaged
- We’ll liaise with Cheshire East and Mobberley residents to ensure that we have their support when it’s possible to host the event again
- We’ll work with Andy Whittingham and other race organisers to learn best practice for putting on a safe event as soon as we exit the Covid threat
Financially, WRF is still in a safe place and we’ve done everything possible to mitigate the impact of this year’s postponement. WRC received payment of £6k earlier in the summer and recently a further £1k towards the impact of Covid. We’re working on contingency scenarios of break-even, if necessary, for 2021.
As always your support is invaluable to the event and very much appreciated. We hope to have everyone on board to help with preparations, as soon as we have the green light to proceed.
Many thanks from Cat, Nick, Malcolm, Roy, Nicky, Colin and the WRF Team
