Well it was a busy time this weekend – International Women’s Day on Saturday, Sumer Series Parkrun competition opened too and there’s only 7 weeks [Sunday] to go until the 40th London Marathon.
Our club members attended 8 parkrun events and 33 of guys ran!
ColinC and Laura ambled up to first-time at a park in the lakes – near Ambleside! ColinC not to be outdone was seen down South at the Bay on the cycle track – if he’s spotted at the pool in Wilmslow, we will know he’s secretly practising for a Tri!!
At Bramhall Rob came home second finisher – no Juliet to pip this time – but Ellen was first lady home quite close behind him. PaulG coasting round with no pressure from his nemesis PaulN holidaying , ended up behind MarkC. His PB was an improvement of 18 seconds – amazing what feeling good about your team can do to the spirits. Roy ran great too – his time was quicker than all his 2019 Bramhall runs. Jill was close to her earlier 2020 time.
Jonathan was back at Ally Pally; the breakfast boys reunited to first time at the woods – I really enjoyed that course with the woods and downish finish. South Manchester saw Qes put in a very quick run, as did his mum Hum – she had her quickest parkrun since [?] – I can’t recall. KateM was back park running after 6 months: 27 minutes dead! Pacing?
Another Ally P course saw RichardHa and Tim return each to PB by around 50 seconds; Richard just pipped Tim. But Tim had his highest ever AG 83% with his fastest ever parkrun. Richard too had his fastest parkrun ever. Then close behind was first timer GrahamD – again best ever time. It’s getting a little suspicious – a short course or Nicks training!! Janine also first timed and ran her fastest for ages! But Jan’s revisit was 18 seconds slower. OK guys: so how did you run so fast
Lastly there was Wilmslow. With Golden girl Rebecca organising lady pacers and our own Lady Mo directing the IWD parkrun it was interesting to observe whether there would be a surge in female runners, which I’d expected. However even with an increase (5) in runners there were less (3) than the previous week! Perhaps the empty shelves at the supermarket might have been in some people’s minds or perhaps an article could have been printed in the local Guardian advertising the significance. Nevertheless 11 ladies first-timed. Two of them being our club members: Amanda back running a parkrun after a years absence. Angie left her usual course behind to first time and be a pacer too.

‘Snakebite’ Rebecca (sounds better story than Mugsy) put the pain in her foot to the back of her mind and showed the girls how to pace (21:00 dead). First lady home too. Tracy [24], Nicola [25], Angie [29] and Catherine [30] completed the Wilmslow pacing pack.
The men? Well we had 5 club members in the first 10 finishers. Jim 4th finisher led Sam, TrevorM, MikeH and GrahamS home. Trevor can’t seem to hit his usual 80% AG at the moment. Graham equalled his PB.. Gareth had his fastest time since Jan 18! AlanT running so well now had his fastest time since Aug. 18!! He might find it hard pacing at 2:10 next Sunday. Pacing buddy John a little behind. Julian found himself behind his namesake too! Don volunteered.
