The Cheshire XC Championships beckoned in the afternoon and may have kept some of our faster runners in bed – but still we had 29 club runners at 13 Parkrun events.
At Wilmslow we had 12 runners, or to be more precise: 11 runners and 1 walker; Don chose to volunteer and be a tail walker at the same time for his 101st Volunteering!
RichardHa was first club finisher and 7th overall just pipping Robin – both with quick 19+ minute runs. MikeH would have been an excellent 20-minute pacer.
Then came our first lady runner home – Rebecca. She was just pipped to being first lady finisher by the smallest of margins. AlanT with his fastest Parkrun at Wilmslow since May 2017 – do we need a drugs/mince-pie test to be carried out here? Then Jan with her (now) usual sub 25-minute run. Nick’s training is certainly working for her – wouldn’t surprise me if there’s a Tri-PB in the offing here in 2020. Then GrahamD – pacing or jogging on his 99th parkrun? – followed by JohnP with his fastest time since October 18. It was his 250th parkrun! He was just ahead of ColinW who was just a little quicker than his pre-Christmas run, he accompanied a very consistent Kathryn round– just pipping her at the line. Catherine was back again after New Years day and was just a few seconds slower than then. And Don ‘Tail-ran’ escorting a small group at the back round in under 50 minutes.
At Bramhall there was no Rob – but daughter Ellen was first lady finisher and third overall with her fastest time for over 2 years. Must be that handicap run of ours that helped make it so! The other Usual Supects took it easy PaulG – 1 second ahead of PaulN and just a few seconds in front of Janine who was third lady finisher; who by the way first-timed at Hyde on New Year’s Day. MarkC , no doubt happy his New Years wish came true, ran his fastest there since April 18!
Congleton saw Tim, our Sue Hool trophy winner, finish 8th just a few seconds ouside his recent December PB. Stretford saw Huma put in a strong run, her son Qes ran fast too, his quickest since May.
At Macclesfield we had Malcolm running a quickish time that saw him finish 7th in 20+ minutes, ex-member Sarah started 2020 with her 4th parkrun.
Then we had the travellers. The Johnstone’s split up, with Sharon going north to Didsbury and was first lady finisher, whilst Oliver chose to travel south to first-time at Hanley and push one step nearer towards his 50th different course.
Singletons included Angela at her local Marple course with her fastest time since August; RichardHi at Cheltenham where he PB’d; Jonathan at Ally Pally; and Roy first-timing at another Ally – no doubt trying out the course before competition begins in March. Carolyn and ChrisC chose Sale Water for a breakfast run.
Others chose to fly out to warmer climes for their run! Nicky paced her daughter Victoria around the course in Douglas – I assume that’s what they were doing and were not taking part in a three-legged race!!
Summary:
Busiest event: Stretford [771]; quietest Noble Park [Douglas:170]
Tourist of the day: Richard Hirons Cheltenham
Fastest Male: Tim Billington (19:13); Female: Sharon Johnstone (20:21);

Thanks for another great report Patrick. Yes, I thought I would try out Alexandra Park before the Summer Series begins. Good fast PB course. Pancake flat on tarmac with a few twists and turns. Now I know the course I shall return to improve on what was a slow time after the Christmas festivities! Roy
Good to know! Thanks. Don’t suppose you sussed out the breakfast options? 🙂
No Patrick I didn’t look for the breakfast options, but there must be some nearby.
