The inaugural award took place at the Christmas Party December 13th 2019, and was presented by our Chairperson Paul Norris.
“This year we’re awarding the trophy to someone who has shown engagement and continual improvement since joining the club. I remember when they first joined I used to run alongside them. Now I barely see them on Tuesday evenings, except briefly as they lap me. Someone whose progress is proved by the fact that they knocked 15 minutes off their half marathon PB recently in Manchester. The very first winner of the Simon Fenton trophy is….Nicola Reece.”
Nicola also received a smaller trophy which she will keep.
She thanks everyone:
“Hi all, I just wanted to say thanks for a great night last night but also to everyone involved in awarding me the Simon Fenton trophy. I unfortunately didn’t get to meet Simon but the fact you have named a trophy in his honour tells me he was a special man and I am honoured and very touched (and surprised!) to receive it. Thank you to all of you for welcoming me into this great club and encouraging me, and also inspiring me with all your amazing times and records! “
