There was a great atmosphere at the Christmas Party on Friday night. Some people choosing to go training before the do, others sipping Orange Juice and saving themselves for the Stockport 10 and planning what winter thermals they’d be wearing with the possibility of snow on the hills!! There were a few others saving themselves – for the parkrun? Well I can now see that we had 26 club runners at 7 parkrun events the following day.
We had no real tourist activity this week so close to Christmas; ChrisC did try to get to Hyde but it was cancelled and he had a quick dash to Burnage for his breakfast butty. He was so looking forward to breakfast at the award winning Apprentice Café [engineering dept.] near Hyde that he extolled about the previous evening. IanS ran at York his local with the largest contingent of runners that Saturday- nearly 600. Still that’s a long way off their record attendance of 707. Chris did make it on time with Carolyn also stretching her legs, to Burnage – where they do a decent Breakfast bap I seem to remember.
Singleton runners included GrahamD at South Manchester’s 500th event where he PB’d by nearly a minute. Must have been that Xmas spirit the night before at his guest appearance. As too for Tim, that Italian beer works wonders, with his second fastest in the last 9 months at Congleton – an AG of 79.49%. Oliver first timed at Heaton Park, adding number 47 (?) to his collection of courses around the country.
At our two normal ‘local’ events: Bramhall saw 5 club runners turn out. Rob – even after a night out – put in a strong run to finish 3rd home with an AG of 82.91%; Barry closely behind 5th home; PaulN taking it easy for Sunday after his oranges juices still put in a fairly quickish 22 minutes! Mark with another quick time and Kate returning to Park running after a couple of months dashing about also rant.
That just leaves Wilmslow. Not far to travel with any heavy heads. There were 15 club runners. The course was wet and muddy but at least it wasn’t snowing!
DiMcV building up her strength for next year was first lady and fourth runner home with a fast time and an AG of 81.22%. That’s 3 times she has finished 4th in the last 4 weeks!! Consistency – all First Lady finishes too. RichardHa, MikeH and TrevorM bunched home in 8th, 10th and 11th. Mike nosing it by 1 second over Trevor who just missed out his usual 80+%. JamesE (leading young Joe home) was next. SharonJ returned to run Wilmslow. So did Gareth, with a free Saturday he ran his fastest time this year. Party goers Colin was next club runner, then Laura just ahead of AlanT who is now on 290 parkruns – he ran his fastest time this year by 18 seconds – and was only 2 seconds behind Laura. JohnP a bit further behind Alan than usual – but he did turn up this week as he said he would in the Bar. In the league of Gentlemen – Roy finished ahead of IanA. Roy had his fastest time this year and perhaps with better fluid intake management led Ian home. Don ran too. Possibly his busiest year for park running. Leigh was back parkrunning after 4 months. This time she was tail runner. Nicky saved herself for the Stockport 10 and volunteered. By the way there’s a festive Wilmslow Parkrun on the 19th for any party revellers.
