The rain held off yesterday. Some runners may of been resting for Sunday’s Congleton HM, some may have been taking it easy but 39!! club runners still turned out at 13 parkrun events. Perhaps it will be a low turnout at Congleton.
Or possibly that Saturday was also international parkrun day – the first parkrun started on October 2nd 2004 with 13 runners and 5 volunteers at Bushy Park, near Richmond, South West London.
Club Solo runners returning to their local parks included Huma at a busy Stretford for her monthly run and IanS at a quiet York with his fastest run there since April.
Other travelling Solos saw Malcolm back at Macclesfield with a strong 4th finish, Tim at Sale bettering his early run there by 30-ish seconds – just off a 2018 PB. RobJ jogged around at Wythenshawe. Further afield at Oldham Oliver, with a quick run, added another one to his growing list [43] and NickJ 6th finisher PB’d at Leeds. Whilst RichardC, first timing at South Manchester, ran a great 16:23 his second fastest ever parkrun, finishing 2nd with an AG of 83.93%! Fantastic.
Closer to home, at Lyme Park Kate returned after a year, after all her recent exploits, to add to her parkrun competition; StuartP also returned after a years absence; and PeterW made this his second parkrun ever – finishing with a great time of 33 minutes. I wonder if they caught up afterwards and discussed old times. Congleton saw Jan run her fastest time since she PB’d there in 2017; ChrisC also had his fastest time this year – bet he had a nice butty afterwards too.
At Stockport, the grey brigade turned out in numbers. Four of them AlanT, JohnP, IanA and Roy. Was it drugs? A short course or the result of Nick’s training! All 4 PB’d. Alan by 2 minutes, John by 67 seconds, Ian and Roy by 11 and 26 seconds respectively! Some 28 runners PB’d there on Saturday.
Now for the remaining two events. Bramhall with 9 runners and Wilmslow. At Bramhall RobD put in his normal shift of RD and his usual quick time finishing 4th with an AG of 84.82%. Barry 9th, MikeH 11th (ticking Bramhall off his parkrun competition), PaulG with a fastish time led PaulN this week. Paul was taking it easy for Congleton HM by running about 20 seconds slower than normal; GrahamS possibly taking it easy too. Sharon turned up and put in a quick run, whilst MarkC ran his first run since injuring himself at the Quarry Bank trail run – he achieved his sub 30 as did I!
That just leaves Wilmslow where we had 13 runners. A mini peda-ton of Jim [3], Sam [4], Robin [6], Andrew [9] and Trevor [11]. Andrew improving week on week with his comeback, Trevor a little down from his consistent form and PeterS uncharacteristically just over 21 minutes. ColinC just outside his PB. Nicky, even after her recent Tri and Marathon success, still recorded her fastest time this year at Wilmslow and achieved an AG of 81.17% – being second on the AG table behind young Margaret Huyton! GrahamD, RichardHa and Luara were pacers for 23,24 and 25 minute runners. Julian and Sue were our other 2 runners.
On my recovery plan, I tried hills. Woodford last week whacked me after the last hill; and with Woodbank and Lyme park potentially to try out, Bramhall would be a starter towards that. Found I had some additional [running] pains from last week to contend with at the start. I’d have been happy to get just under 30 mins. Thought I saw Sharon running down the road as I parked – wonder whether she had run from Home? Mark spotted me ‘hobbling’ down to the park and told me so. That boosted my confidence As I thought I was actually elegantly limping! I stripped off next to a group of cub runners, Bramhall(?), or so I thought. Turned out the green shirts belonged to a group of 250+ runners – including our two Pauls. I Found the course nostalgic but unable, at the back, to hear Rob’s directions and start command it was surprise I had to to spring [well walk actually] into the race up the hill. on my travels spotted quite a few 250+ runners – even at the back. Too risky to overtake on the trails and having left my headset behind which meant I didn’t get any music or feedback as to how I was doing. Did see the 4k sign and noted (24:38) I’d need a 5 minute last 1k! Pushed a little and spotted a 30 minute pacer cross the bridge ahead of me. Pushed on a bit more and caught him before the descent. Why can’t all parkruns have a decent at the end 🙂 amazingly broke 30 minutes – but then again my watch said 4.8k! My new role as Secret Shopper with the BBC (Breakfast Butty Corporation) failed. Though Rob directed me to the Café. No smell of bacon or sausages greeted me. Just cake, Very nice cake – but expensive! Paid for coffee and cake with money (6.20!) and paid for the running the hills later whilst going round Manchester that afternoon . I was also in agony – watching Bill Bryson at the Palace – squashed in the middle of a row small seats unable to stretch. Still must keep persevering as how else can I in the future become Ian’s and Roy’s Nemesis. C’est la Vie! A bientot.

Great report as usual Patrick, thanks. I took 26 seconds, not 16, off my previous run at Woodbank Park in July. Ian A ran really well again, as did John P with Alan T being the surprise package at the front of the pack. Obviously not being bitten by a dog, as he allegedly was at South Manchester, helped. The only downside for Alan is he didn’t get the memo about us all wearing black!
Thanks for the feedback. The report now reflects your achievements. I just need some rejuvenation – or new leg – to compete 🙂
Thanks Patrick, excellent report as usual. At the risk of being tedious, I did take 1 min and 7 seconds off my best time there this year. I was hoping to congratulate Roy and Ian after the race but unfortunately they had rushed off to do their audition for Men in Black 4.
doH! Bad enough with the hair, the eyes and the legs going – now it’s the brain!! Corrected.
