On a sunny Saturday 26 club runners participated at 12 parkrun events. Various members left Cheshire to run in Wales, Cambridgeshire, London and Germany. Some ladies rested for the Macc half.
Singlets included Louisa – first Lady home at Peterborough and RobJ – first man back at Wythenshawe with Frankie – first Lady!! If I am right Frankie needs to update her parkrun details to show Wilmslow Running Club!! No doubt Rob will correct me if I am wrong). Anyway Frankie was just off her PB and Rob got a PB by over a minute – but not sure what “PB (assisted)” means: pulled round by huskie?!! Louisa ran her normal 20 minute something run she always does there – 16 seconds faster than her 2019 best time.
Gareth chose Aberystwyth for his fourth outing this year – first-timing here he ran his fastest 219 parkrun. Emily chose Clapham and JonathanD – one of our country members – was at Ally Pally. And our parkrun tourist of the year – Oliver – chose to first time at the ‘Germanic’ West Park course near Munich. I chose Sale Water to participate in the 100th run I’ll do anything for cake.
Onto Duets now: the Breakfast Boys sampled Lyme Park – both still unable to better there New Years run. Richard approaching his 10th run [97 to date]. Bramhall saw regulars PaulN and GrahamS turn out. Mr consistency – Paul – but still can’t beat his first run there in January this year; however he topped the AG table this week with 76.37%. Malcolm ran his 99th at Macllesfield and topped the AG table with 79.08%and RichardL ran too knocking almost a minute of his previous bets 2019 time.
At Cheadle Hulme youngster IanS led round the Wilmslow OBs. Returned to attempt at bettering their 2019 times Roy was unable to improve on his 2019 time, but AlanT knocked just over a minute off his and PB’d ; JohnP similarly improved his 2019 time by 1 minute exactly; Ian didn’t unfortunately.
The bulk of our runners [9] turned up at Wilmslow parkrun. PB’s for Jim after exactly a year he knocked off 11 seconds and achieved an AG of 81.15%; a few seconds behind in fourth male home James also sped to a PB improving by 2 seconds on his May PB.
The Wilmslow peda-ton chugged in positions 8 to 13 (apart from 9th) RichardHa leading the Wilmslow pack – one second outside his recent PB; Markus with his fastest park run for a year; TrevorM slightly slower than normal but an AG of 80.03%; Andrew improving with every parkrun since his injury; then Robin. Marcus is now on 99 runs and is now off to Uni – but he tried the pop-up-pop-away challenge with a time of 13:23 is a little over the current leading time of around a minute! Haven’t seen a vest like that for a few years now!
Laura rested and marshalled. Janine our only lady club runner swapped Bramhall ran her second fastest time there – set in 2016 -and improved on her 2019 time by nearly 20 seconds. ColinC wasn’t too far off his PB; GrahamD completed his 70th Wilmslow parkrun. Jim and Trevor were top of the AG table.
My Use-it-or-lose-it approach: Returned home Friday evening, after an energetic break, with a very stiff back – should I really be badminton-ing, ten pin bowling , wave jumping and water-riding at my time in life! My plan for a hilly parkrun evaporated when I still had a stiff back Saturday morning. So I chose a sunny Sale Water for my run. Their 100th. So Cake as well .
Last week the runners around me were discussing the GNR as we waited for the start. This week, a couple were just hoping to finish after getting back from 2 weeks in Turkey, of just eating, drinking and lying down on their all-inclusive! Setting off from near the back it was like open water swimming: stop-starts, elbows, near-trips! Out of the shade and I realised my sun glasses were still in the car! I got bad feedback from the family during the week as to my posture! One shoulder being 6 inches lower than the other!! Looking in front of me at my shadow. It looked ungainly. Tried to work on it. Then running next to the water I’d encountered the stony trail! I’d forgotten how bad it was. Gait and style went to pieces. No overtaking. A nice 1k loop around to return and it felt good running hip flexor sore a bit. Listening to music and not looking at watch. Wondered how slow this run would be? Would I be under 31? The stony trail appeared. The lady in front slowed down so I overtook her and nearly came a cropper ankle-wise! She slowed down for the very stony section. Concentration and common sense. People now overtaing me: dog, lady with pram, dog, dog! Last 500m style returned. No more been overtaken. Big queues at end for scanning. But found man with tray of lemon cake just past the scanners. Nice! 🙂
On to Tree Tops Café for tea – couldn’t sample Bacon Butty this week as there was bacon at home to eat up. But the bourbon biscuits were pricy! Sat down , dunked biscuits then looked at watch: 29:20 – 20 seconds faster than last week – unbelievable? Mind you watch said it was 4.98k. Homewards wondered why quads and back was on fire. Worried – then remembered I put deep heat on those areas first thing this morning. Oh Well – hills next week?

Thanks Patrick, excellent report as always. Good turnout at Cheadle Hulme, although Roy was disappointed with his time. However he did win the style prize due to modelling his new Ray Bans!
