Nice weather for a parkrun or the GNR – good luck to ColinW, Matt and KateM today [Sunday]! Don’t suppose Colin will be wearing a big yellow dress like his namesake [Colin Plews]!!
Back to Parkrun, it was a quiet Saturday yesterday, only 22 club runners ran at 7 parkrun events. Summary stats at the end!
GrahamS was the only club runner at Bramhall, Roy returned to Burnage for his first outing there this year. MikeH first timed at Streford and ran his fastest time this year and achieved his highest AG (81.27%). Janine first timed at Crosby and ran across sand, tarmac and grass finishing as second quickest lady!
Macclesfield hosted the Breakfast boys: ChrisC and RichardHi – they returned but didn’t improve on their times there; Chris led ex Club runner Sharon Jones round – her third outing there and each subsequent time has been a PB.
At Wilmslow young Dan ran close to his PB but was pipped by a Serpentine runner who PB’d for the fourth time in his last 6 visits to Wilmslow! We had 6 runners finish in the first 11 runners home: Jim and RichardHa were close to their PBs. TrevorM, slightly out of his +/- 10 seconds time – but still with an AG of 80.38%.
Andrew getting stronger by the week broke 20 minutes for his fastest time since February. Markus with his normal consistent 21 minute pace. Julian with his fastset since PB’ing in January. Jan getting under 25 minutes for the first time in 6 months and AlanT a few minutes behind.
And lastly a big wow/cheer for PeterW who debued for his first ever parkrun. His fabulous 29:04 earned him the Record Holder for the VM80-84 category. It was interesting also to see there were also 3 V75+ runners – 2 of them ladies!
Lastly, having been walking a lot through the East Yorkshire coastal towns this week and climbing lots and lots of steps (199 to get to the Abbey at Whitby – mind you there was a brewery next to the Abbey to rest!). I thought I’d try and find a quiet parkrun to take it easy on the sore legs. The quiet preparation I’d contemplated evaporated when I woke up late on Saturday. No breakfast, drink, no stretching as I motored to Cheadle past the roadworks – missed the entrance and got there late. No time for stretching but encouragement from Laura and Bev (Alty). Putting knee support on and trying to tie laces, couldn’t get watched synced and arrived just before the run started. My approach now to my R-Plan (where R is either Retirement or Recovery) is to start at the back. It’s impossible to get sucked into a quick start there 🙂 The race started without me hearing it and with no watch timing I just tuned in to the music. The ground was soft and a little slippy but I didn’t feel it as much on my leg as last week. Spotted Don way in front and later Nicky powering along. Only completed one lap when a big bloke thundered past! Could I be double lapped!! Oh well just plod on. Managed avoid that as the big red shirted runner stormed to the finish as I was on my second lap! Turned out to be RichardCs – 16:51 (AG 81.01%) PB’d – third time on the trot – knocking 40 seconds off his February time.
Didn’t see Laura but Bev 23:01 with Laura – both first timers – were first and second lady home; Laura 30 seconds behind Bev. Nicky third lady home with an imopressive AG 80.33%. I Shouted encouragement to her as she approached the finish and I was on my start for the third lap. I also saw Don after the next bend and I was closer now. 45 seconds behind. I tried to go quicker to surprise him and gee him up – but the soft grass didn’t make it easy for me and by the next bend it was still 40 seconds. So just kept a slithering consistent gait. Passing the Lost sign for ‘Daisy Missing’ again, wondering where the finish exit was I realised I couldn’t see Don! He had finished with his fastest time this year.
I asked the next marshal where the finish exit was – and as I thought I’d gone past it. Turning round I could see other runners turning off. So a few places lost! No welcoming cheerleaders this week! I hobbled back to the car desperate to get my knee support off and stretch to check for any damage. Then it dawned on me – in my rush to get to the start I hadn’t realised it was a pay and display car park. A quick exit then before being caught. Must set the alarm next time. My time was similar to last week – if I adjust the extra I did! Will see how the leg reacts today/tomorrow. Till next week….
