Club Series, shared race 19 with South Cheshire 20
Sunday September 2nd.
Postponed by the March snow, we were rewarded with a warm, wind-free day which broke into sunshine as the race progressed and the cloud dispersed.
It’s a big race, over 1000 runners, I feared over-crowding but others will have to comment, I, shared the road with the tail ambulance. It looked like it was going to be a big Wilmslow race but we had a surprisingly large number of did not start.
This is a quality race, you know that when Diane is 4th. lady, and here she was 4th. lady over 40, 150th. in the race, 15th. lady, but nevertheless the lead Wilmslow finisher.
Andrew Cleal, a new name to me, was 152nd. Sharon, 26th. lady, was 207th.and Tim 244th.
Mick, who broke the club >70 5km record at Mid-Cheshire, was 1st. M70 and added the club 10km record.
Nicky, who broke the club over 60 record, was 1st F60. and Sharon 3rd.F45.
Paul chalked-up another League Two victory, Ian Roberts was second, then Kate McCulloch and Mark.
Nicky took League Three. Good run from Jan, always inspired by a fast course, saw her finish ahead of Nicola.
Catherine failed on this occasion to get amongst League 3 but took League Four ahead of Si. What was planned as my fastest 10k of the year was all over after 800m, my pace was sensible but mysteriously I, according to my meter, was ‘in the red’. After a sit-down, I decided not to waste the morning, reset my watch and set-off in pursuit of the backmarkers. Ran ok for 8k then it all went haywire again, two Chorlton ladies came and sat with me, one a GP, and helped me jog/walk the final km.
It is a quality race…Andrew is one of our talented new male members! Good to see him out in the vest.
Dont worry too much about times…Dave Norman (Race organiser), has mentioned a couple of reasons why…Humid morning and tweaks to the course.
Hope you’re ok now Ian. Hey thanks for the excuses Claire as I am dissatisfied with my result! Trying also to work out where the course changed…
