parkrun Race Series Competition 2018 – End Of June Report

Another great report from Elspeth. A few comments would be nice!

parkrun Race Series Competition 2018 – End Of June Report

The sudden rise in temperatures this month has not affected the numbers of WRC runners attending park runs and we have six qualifiers to congratulate this month. Both James Macdonald and Tony Hulme qualified for the ‘Popular’ courses at Lyme Park, Wilmslow, Bramhall and Congleton. Jan Wyles, Tim Billington, John Porteous and Carolyn Hirons have also qualified for the ‘Enthusiast’ courses of Sale Water, Burnage, Stretford and Wythenshawe. The following people have completed three courses and need only one more for qualification in July, the list is as follows:

Popular Courses:
Sharon Johnson & Graham Duce – Congleton
Ian Smallwood, Ian Ashcroft & Roy Pownall – Bramhall
Mark Crossland, Alan Turner, John Porteous & Nicola Coppock – Lyme Park

Enthusiast Courses:
Sharon Johnstone & Rob Jackson – Stretford

We have one official parkrun milestone this month with Daniel Bundred running his 50th parkrun at Wilmslow. Although not an official T-Shirt Milestone, congratulations should go to Paul Garnett who reached 300 parkruns this month with a ‘tourist’ run at Perth parkrun.
Notable runs must include our travelling parkrun tourist Richard Lawson who added another four different courses to his list and came 1st at Chadderton Parkrun on the 16th June. Andy Whittingham knocked his course PB at Wilmslow down to 17.42 on 23rd June, an excellent run in the heat that morning. Richard Coen managed to PB at Bramhall on the 9th June, also taking 1st runner. Sharon Johnstone increased her double to a triple coming in as first lady at Bramhall on the 16th and 23rd June following Wythenshawe on the 9th. Although not members of the club it was nice to see WRC offspring taking 1st Lady at Lyme Park (Juliet daughter of Rob Downs) and Wilmslow (Louisa daughter of Andy Whit) on the 16th June … looks like both Rob and Andy will have to keep up the training to stay ahead of those girls!

The prize for most exotic parkrun is awarded this month to Roy Pownall who ran at Heartlands parkrun in Redruth, Cornwall. Roy showing dedication to fitness in between those Cornish clotted cream teas!

With the heat set to continue into July we may struggle to see many PBs however the sunshine hopefully will still keep numbers up.
Happy July parkrunning.

  1. I’m glad to have qualified.. now do I focus on knocking a minute or so off my total enthusiasts.. or diversify into the populists courses.. race tactics!!

  2. Thanks Elspeth for another great report. The course in Cornwall was four times around a twisting park that included going around flower beds and a children’s playground. Not the best for a fast time! I managed to resist the Cornish clotted cream teas, but the odd G&T did go down well in the heat!
