I think only the Mid – Cheshire 5K is a faster course than running the traditional Dunham course (race no.1) the other way round. Paul Norris has said historically his times don’t vary and surprisingly the winner on the night was two seconds slower than his third place in the first race in the series on the traditional course. The usual suspects of Andrew, the Jackson two, Rob and Nick, and I were joined by Paul N, Catriona and dropping our average age, Daniel. The weekly battle of the V45 race promoters – Cute Fruits v Run North West – went yet again to Michael Harrington but Andrew declared he was very satisfied with the time and frankly his races are much more of an event so not all bad. Dan finished a place behind Andrew and picked up the first Male Junior prize. Rob recorded his quickest of the four races. Nick has raced consistently over his three races with a spread of only 10 seconds and though this was his quickest he only managed third V50 after two firsts. Unfortunately Norris Green clashes with our Half Marathon so Nick will not get the four races in to count for an aggregate series win as he would have romped that. Paul was just back from Bali so reckoned slightly jet lagged and Cat took a break from training for her 200 mile over two days bike ride which she is organising for charity ( Nick Bishop has been co-opted as motivator and confirmed in the peleton). Billy from Southport and Waterloo stayed in front of me the whole way as against re-passing me at Birchwood so I emulated Andrew with four second places.
Chris C (plus Riley the dog) weighed up going for a run or coming to watch – and his support was much appreciated!
