parkrun Race Series Competition -End of May Report

Elspeth writes..

We have seen a rise in temperatures this May creating some lovely sunny mornings for parkrunning. This is reflected in the parkrun competition which continues to heat up, with another five qualifiers this month. Both Andy Whittingham and Gareth Trimble qualified for the ‘Popular’ courses at Lyme Park, Wilmslow, Bramhall and Congleton. Catherine Machin, Alan Turner and Sue Strang have also qualified for the ‘Enthusiast’ courses of Sale Water, Burnage, Stretford and Wythenshawe. Well done to them all!

Looking ahead to June we have a large number of people who have complete three courses and need only one more for qualification, the list is as follows:

Popular Courses:
Sharon Johnson – Congleton
Ian Smallwood, Ian Ashcroft & Roy Pownall – Bramhall
Mark Crossland, Nicola Coppock & Tony Hulme – Lyme Park

Enthusiast Courses:
Jan Wyles & John Porteous – Wythenshawe
Rob Jackson – Stretford
Tim Billington – Burnage
Carolyn Hirons – Sale Water

We have one parkrun milestone this month, congratulations go to Carolyn Hirons who completed her 100th run at Burnage this month.

Notable runs include the Andy Whittingham who took first place at both Wilmslow and the tough course at Lyme Park and Sharon Johnstone who took first lady at both Wilmslow and Burnage – double trouble!

The prize for most exotic parkrun is awarded to both Nicky Mowat, travelling over the border north to Inverness, and to Paul Garnett who travelled over a different border to Gnoll (near Swansea).

The mid-summer months usually bring PBs and we have started early with Graham Duce achieving two PBs in a month, attaining his first sub 20 min run at Wilmslow on 12th May (19.49) and then on his first visit to Bramhall a week later knocking his parkrun PB down to 19.46. Tim Billington continues to improve, he knocked his overall parkrun PB down to 19.30 with a great run at Streford on 26th May.

With a busy month ahead with four summer series races as well as five potential parkruns, hopefully we can look forward to some more great performances and PBs!

Happy June parkrunning.
