Summer Series, race 15
We did the race a few years ago in the Series, but my memory of it was a bit vague, which was probably no bad thing. It was another of these events when we provide a bit of light entertainment as a break from the serious business of sheep-dog trials. It would seem from the commentary that this year’s sheep were particularly uncooperative and the dogs were inclined to go off in a sulk, the PR did not comment on the competitors. It was nice to pay only £6 to enter – I can manage without the goodies.
The first mile and a half is flat and the finish returns over the same route. In between are two tough climbs and corresponding steep descents. Unlike other courses, which favour either the climbers or descenders , I would judge Teggs Nose as being even-handed.
It was pleasantly warm but we were hit by a heavy shower over the first two miles, which then gave away to sunshine. It was breezy, but nothing uncomfortable.
Mike, whose running this year has been largely restricted to parkruns, was our best in 17th. place. Tom and Matt were together for much of the race but, as they moved into the latter stages, Tom eased away, winning the Vet 60 prize in the process They finished 22nd. and 23rd.. Tim, the fourth League 1 runner, was 64th.
Diane was first Wilmslow lady for the third time in a week and went home carrying a prize, 1st. F40, for the third time in a week. Sally was second and 1st. F50, her second win in a week.
Tony picked-up the League 2 60-points again for the second time in a week. He was followed by Diane, Richard and Craig.
Sally won League 3 with Patrick second, Chris third and Cat fourth. Patrick’s enthusiasm shows no bounds, he arrived in time for a 12:30 start.
Having run badly on both Sunday and Wednesday I was please to maintain, until we got back down on the flat, a respectable distance behind Colin. I never seriously threatened preventing him making it 8 League 4 wins out of 8 races but did harbour moments of ambition. In the end he finished well ahead of me, still it was nice to be in front of Don, who had beaten me at Chinley and Carolyn, we were close at Pie and Peas.
Almost as many on the touchline as the pitch, we were much appreciative of support from Janine, Malcolm, Bernard, Sharon, Roy, Stephen, and Simon.
