Lancashire's mighty River Lune has a fearsome reputation… longer than the Amazon and infested with crocodiles and jet-skis, it plunges in a mighty torrent, towards the quaint coastal resort of Lancaster.
Fortunately Matt, Christian and I are just as tough, so we rolled up to tackle it in the Riverside Half Marathon.
It turns out that the race is a mostly flat affair, out and back from a pub on St. George's Quay, along a scenic, traffic-free path beside the river. As the race progressed, the increasing temperature started to add to the challenge, but the trees either side of the path provided some respite.
Despite being fairly small in terms of numbers, the race was well organised and nicely timed preparation for the Congleton and Macclesfield races.
Christian, in fine form, nearly caught Matt, and I followed in, back to the pub.
