The race followed a scenic and challenging route down the west side of Derwent Water out into the fells of Borrowdale before finally racing back down east side to Keswick. Spurred on by the great views and exciting trails I managed to hang in with the leaders although suffering a bit on the rocky descents.
The half was the lightweight option – there was also a full 26 which added an out and back to Scafell Pike – this was won by Ricky Lightfoot in an amazing 3:40.

Brilliant. Congratulations Rob!
Amazing! I recognise the photo as a path in the forest beside Derwent Water that I walked along with daughter and grandchildren, after descending from Cat Bells on 26 May. The next day we were near there again, having canoed across Derwent Water. 20 years ago, I used to do the Keswick Half Marathon, often with Arabella (then Chairman) and Richard Woodrow. This was a tough road HM that also went out along the west side of Derwent Water and returned to Keswick Rugby Club on the east side. Arabella used to provide quails’ eggs for lunch. Is this a tradition that our new Chairman should return to?
