While the rest of you were enjoying the "Cheshire Life" at Bolesworth Castle a select but hardy bunch of cross-border warriors were representing the club at the spiritual home of cross country – Boggart Hole Clough. The championship course was extended to include both the "new loop" on the far side of the track and the original woodland section including the infamous slippery hill. The going was soft – I've not seen quite so much mud since Alton Towers 2011 – it was as if the course had been specially prepared for Malcolm.
Not wishing to waste time on a warm up, Barry and Adam arrived a few seconds after the start. Thanks to some quick thinking by Ellen they both managed to pick up their numbers from her as they powered through the field on the second lap.
Unfortunately injury had left us one short of a counting team but I'm sure that we had Sale and Salford worried for a while. It was a good day for the rest of team Downs as Ellen won the U20 and Juliet was 3rd U17 with both scoring team gold.
