Wrexham 10 miles – Summer Series, Race 6

Wrexham 10 miles, Summer Series Race 6, Saturday 26th April

Anne has clipped my wings on trips abroad so along with Mike, Paul, and John I lined-up for my sixth run of the Series.

Prior to Knype Pool, I ran this year's League 4 through last year's results (I can hear my daughter saying "get a life, dad", but it only took quarter of an hour). Two conclusions; with 3 up: 3 down this year, the probability was that I would be relegated but, with only a marginal improvement on last year, I might just stay up. My magic figure was 394 points and that I believe that this is useful guide for anyone, in any of the leagues, who is targeting survival rather than glory. I am not sure that which league you are in makes a whole lot of difference, but it's nice to have a goal for the season.

The rumour was three laps and Google was saying 'Wrexham Industrial Estate' and a drive of over an hour, you have to be keen. I found that I’d been there before, ran a December 10k with Cat. Our memory was flat but windy – history was about to repeat itself. Two 5-mile laps.

These are the bare bones of the results that I got over the phone from the organiser David Alun Williams He is going to post me the full results. They may be available on the internet but Alan ‘doesn’t do computers’ and was unsure where. I’ve not got categories positions, perhaps you could add ‘comments’ as to who came where in which category.

Damian won the men. Di McVey was leading the ladies when she was forced to drop-out.

Janine was our first lady, followed by Di Bygrave and Nicky.

Jon took the 60-points in League 2, Andy 59, Phil 58 then Ian, Janine, and Paul.

Di was the League 3 winner with Patrick taking 59, Tim 58, Nicky and Gavin.

As at Chester I started too fast. As John said, you may get away with it over 5 miles but not 10. John caught me at 8, his first League Four 60 points of the Series. Mike, enthusiastic as ever on the touch-line, convinced me that Angela was going to pass me as well. By that stage I was too tired to fight, in truth too tired to care. But when I looked-back at the finish she was comfortably behind and she too had struggled. Gail, still feeling the tiredness of her marathon, took 57 points and Clare 56.

Sue made it two wins in a row in League 5, second Cat, still on her turbo-charged super diet, then Nina and Julie easing the marathon out of their legs.
