Sunday September 28th.
A flat 10k only half-an-hour from Wilmslow (Arley) brought-out what Andy would possibly describe as the PB tarts. When I first arrived it seemed the first 10 people I bumped into were Wilmslow and I had a vision of Summer Series numbers.
The course was superb; "must have it in next year's Summer Series" says Janine. It lived-up to 'flat' and was on quiet country roads, although I did have the misfortune to get immediately behind a combined harvester, which considerately stayed behind the runners in front of it but less considerately belched diesel into my chest for a kilometre (did Simon or Gail slip him a fiver?).
We certainly have PBs for Jan, Rob, Janine and Gail. Alan was possible but unsure, but big improvement on Sutton. Sue's was a marvellous run and surely must be a PB? There will be more, maybe everyone else could use 'comments' at the bottom (on the race even if they didn't get a PB). Those I talked to were pleased with their time except Simon, whose long 'hot' spell has cooled a little, as these things seemingly inevitably do.
Janet's year started so promisingly at Trafford, but, after a disappointing summer, has now belatedly blossomed. Gail, how much faster can she go?
Achievements of the Day: Janine went under 40 minutes

Simon 1st. V70
After a summer of mainly short races the 13 miles, never mind the sting in the Congleton tail, is already becoming a source of anxiety.

Ian
I got a PB and first time under 40 minutes.

I too was behind the combined harvester Ian and can still taste the fumes now, but at least you got away and were lucky to escape the verbal abuse from a very angry farmer when he pulled over, he certainly was not a happy chappy 😉
PB tarts indeed…..and didn’t they do well??
No PB for me but I am just happy these days not to get ‘Gailed’……its happening to more and more of us……and indeed, just how much faster can she go? Another great result.
A lovely fast course on a perfect running day, how could we not finish with smiles…..
A host of PB’s, well done to all that came and conquered.
As Ian has said, Congleton next Sunday…..13.1 miles, sting in the tail….I wouldn’t bother if I was you, have a lie in………see you there.
Andy
Oh by the way great race and defo one for next year 🙂

They’re running this again on 30 March, so if anyone missed out on this PBfest of a course, there’s another chance after a hard winter’s training. I really surprised myself with a PB by almost a minute after a last minute entry.
as long as the grumpy farmers don’t kibosh this race, I would love to do it again! Nice for me to see training turning into improvement after a disapointing summer series.. and wow very impressed by the sub-40 group.. well done all!
Early race for SS next year? Was so much better than those horrible 10ks round industrial estates…
Paul G’s PB was over 40 seconds – he overtook me in the finishing straight after tracking me round !
Congratulations Paul – definitely wound you up by beating you at Sutton… The motivation you needed?
Well done all of you pbing it up over at Arley! Janine’s been doing a bit of a Bubka waiting for this one.
Meanwhile Vicky and were a little bit further afield hitting the Sandstone Trail B race – Vicky was 1st Lady and got a nice big trophy for her effort. I blame the 8 foot tall corn on the cob field for coming in 20 mins later…
I thought it was a lovely route – definitely would like to do it again. Congratulations to all the speedy WRC racers and thanks, as always, for the support from Paul. I got a PB too – only done one 10k before, but my time was 57:37 in that one (at Manchester in May), but I finished in 53:38 at Arley yesterday, so that’s a PB by nearly 4 minutes 🙂 Not looking forward to Congleton!
Somehow managed to register as the wrong person and so didn’t get on the results, but it was nice that they thought I was a V35.
Had a fabulous ding dong battle all the way round with Nicky and tried to do the same with Doddy but unfortunately couldn’t quite catch him. Those 6 seconds seemed like an eternity!
Not a PB for me; that was back in the heady days of March when I was in the Ellis/Mowat marathon boot camp; but pleased with my run after my usual summer hibernation.
