North of England Cross Country Championships Saturday 26th January

Not a race that we originally had in plan coming in the middle of a number of other important weekends.

A number of us fancied the race, given the setting @ Knowsley Safari Park!

After the recent weather, Wigan and the surrounding areas had been badly effected. And on arrival…A white out with a good six inches of snow and more in drifts.

For those that recall Alton Towers a few years back and the conditions …The Salford boys felt that this was even more challenging with Rob suggesting that the recent BHC was a barren dessert !

A challenging course through undulating country side and woodland with snow everywhere save for the liquid mud that marked the course !

Race winner was Steve Vernon from Stockport winning his 5th title .

82. Rob Downs

94. Malcolm Fowler

138. Graham MacNeill

377. Nick Bishop

538 ran.

Tough day !

  1. Three photos added to the report.

  2. Knowsley Safari Park was an excellent cross country venue which despite the weather provided an interesting course.
The lions had been fed before the start of the race, so we were never in any real danger!
