Sherdley Park XC Update

Nearly …So nearly !

Almost a clean sweep.

Our ladies win the senior team and vets races, while the men are points away from completing the double double, finishing just points behind Salford but winning the Vets race. A tremendous result .

We were blessed with fine weather and I always feel a decent and challenging course at Sherdley.

Spare a thought for Rachel Peers, her first xc race , got lost en route and arrived a few minutes late but naturally stayed to cheer her team mates on.

As always thanks to our supporters and a growing band of cakemakers.

Don was also on hand to take photos which with the help of Andy Watts will be used for the Manchester League website in the absence of Harry Shakeshaft .

Thanks also to Paul Sanders who again marshaled both morning and afternoon.

Winning is contagious and creates the dynamics that builds a real team bond. A friend from another club made reference to this by mail to me last night ! With the pleasant weather , we did not take our gazebo but the chatter and smiles around the Wilmslow flag was enough !

Provisional results are available via http://www.race-results.co.uk/results/2012/maccl122.pdf

One anomaly is Richard Hirons who is missing but this has been picked up and being resolved …Any other errors to me please and not the league.

Full photos will be posted soon via a link to the Manchester League website courtesy of Andy and Don.

I was speaking with an official from Trafford as I left who commented on the growing strength of the Manchester League …Its certainly strong and its good to seeing our numbers running .

The ladies were at full strength and great to see Vicky McKinnon continuing her comeback…Likewise it was good to see both Damian and Peter Speake with us …The battle between Rob, Malcolm and Peter was close throughout the six mile course and the dozen or so yards between each of them little changed .

Full but provisional results :

  1. Well done all who ran, one of the best set of cross country results we have ever produced , especially considering the competition. Well done to Nick for his continous enthusiasm for cross country.
Note . its very close and if just one of our first 6 counters in the mens race had not run we could have dropped to fifth. So try your best to turn out for your captains , Nick , and Kate.

  2. The WRC XC teams’ performances at the Second Match of the MACCL 2012/2013 season at Sherdley Park on Saturday 10 November 2012 were the best XC achievments in the Club’s history: the teams for senior men and ladies and veteran men and ladies gained three firsts and a second against other clubs with national reputations. The previous best was in the Fourth Match of the MACCL 2010/2011 season at Woodbank Park on Sunday 2 January 2011, when the teams gained three firsts and a third. That season, WRC XC teams went on to gain three firsts and a third in the League’s Overall 2010/2011 Team competitions.
Six days after the Woodbank Park match, WRC Senior Men and Veteran Men were both first teams in the Cheshire XC Championships held at Forest Park, Birchwood, on Saturday 8 January 2011.
Unfortunately, none of these fine results were given much celebration in the February / March 2011 WRC Newsletter, and so some members may be unaware of the recent standards achieved. Following Match 2 last weekend, the level of expectation should remain high.
    Trevor
