  1. Thanks to all the organisers for a great event. A bit warm for me, but just scraped under 1.30 thanks to being pulled along by Katy Green who is running very well.

  2. I hope you all like the new Wilmslow Half Marathon website? http://www.wilmslowhalf.org.uk I’d love to take the credit, but it’s down to my web guru Keith Parkinson from Todmorden Harriers.

  3. It was cold at 8am when I met Nick and the other head Honcho,s at the Rugby Club , luke warm whilst standing marshalling traffic for 2 hours or so near the Boddington Arms , warm whilst attempting to direct you around the parked Golf near the top of King’s Road and hot , hotter and positively Mediteranean by 1.30pm at the finish !
Peter B , Stuart P , Paul and I ‘caught’ many a runner who managed to cross the line and then collapsed / wobbled and some who appeared to be incoherent and almost translucent due to heat exhaustion and dehydration . We placed them on the grass verge and alerted the medics to administer water/shade/positive words.
Not one Wilmslow runner needed any of the above .
Having run this race once 4 years ago as a non-runner and last year having trained ‘a bit’ I salute you all , really well done , it must have been flipping hot and would have crucified me !
Having helped out a bit on the day , nice to see it from ‘the other side’
Excellent photos/videos seem to be posted already
    Heroic effort everybody !

  4. Another big thank you to everyone who helped, marshalled, cheered, handed out water, administered to the sick and again made this such a fabulous day. Although I had a shocking run, more down to post viral than the weather, it didn’t stop it being another wonderful day in Wilmslow and excellent results for the club.
The Wilmslow Half Marathon is firmly fixed as one of the most important dates on the calendar.

  5. Well done Malcolm, Maurice, Nick and whole team – another fantastic event. The hot day made for a hard race but great to see so many spectators out enjoying it all. Wilmslow ladies – English Champions – what a result!

  6. Some nice photos of Wilmslow runners here http://www.wilmslow.co.uk/news/article/5999/2012-wilmslow-half-marathon-in-photos especially Mike Hill!

  7. I ny defence I was swearing at the indiviual who had placed a dummy timing mat 20m before the actual finish line.

  8. It was the least pleasant wilmslow half I’ve run, had a lovely afternoon enjoying the sun though 🙂
Thanks to all for putting it on but please try to fix the weather next year!

  9. I really struggled with my first ever half marathon- a combination of going off a little too fast (which I seem to have a reputation for!) despite trying not to and the heat which was a little too much for me!! Thanks to everyone who said hello and gave me encouragement as they ran past me and thanks to all who marshalled. Thanks especially to my new coach Angus and to Kate for pulling me along the last half mile 🙂

  10. I am amazed at the organisation of this event, thanks to all for organising, supporting, cheering.. can’t wait to come back and do it “properly” next time !!

  11. I had a shockingly bad run, ( a personal worst) which made me feel a bit down at the end. But by the time I had walked back to the club, soaked up the carnival atmosphere, and had a massage, I just felt wow! What a great event this is. The club should feel proud to be the moving spirit behind this ( I know there is a wider volunteer base who also deserve praise but WRC is the heart of it). Thanks and congratulations once again to all involved in such a slick but welcoming event. Rod

  12. Rod’s comments are spot on : The feedback that I have received from non club members ( the general public) is awesome : A true community event that puts the Wilmslow area on the map : Its fair to say that the population grows by 10,000 on the day .
While WRC may be the custodians , we could not do so without the support and collaboration of other organisations ( including Wilmslow Rugby Club).
With membership of WRC comes responsibilities : Without the full support from all members , the staging of the event is a big challenge , but something that is an honour as a club to stage and a fair bit of fun along the way .

  13. Alex Miller has forwarded me this link to his video of the race. Whilst it’s not quite up to the standard of the legendary Andy Penney video of three years ago, it’s good and definitely worth viewing. Quite a few of you feature on it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsngVlYtZek

  14. Gail the Snail

I have just watched the You Tube video posted, it is fantastic! I suggest all those people out there who may be feeling a little glum after yesterdays performance should watch it – it has proved to me why I enjoy to run and also the fact that I am attached to a fantastic club and have met some great friends/coaches who really do inspire me! I too didn’t run well at all yesterday, infact massive PW, but the only person to blame was me, ok it was hot as well, very hot… I went out with the wrong attitude – massive lesson learnt! (strange how this running lark affects your head!!) I would just like to repeat all that has already been said – fab race, fab organisation, fab marshalling – thank you ;)!!!

  15. I am going to be controversial and say that I was glad it was warm and sunny – it was great preparation for London in 4 weeks! And my shandy tasted much better sat outside in the sun at the Rugby club afterwards…

Thanks to all the helpers and the encouragement around the course!

  16. I agree with Ponytail , however I’m not sure it was the sun or the fact I had my best pre run warm up ever by cycling back , after helping Peter and Ian set up the farthest water station , to home ( I had forgotten my race number ). First time I have been under 1.50.00 .
Many thanks to all , a great day .
