Summer Series – Race 20
Sunday October 2
The heat of the week, I gather, subsided so race 20 was a flat 5k in good running conditions. This Jim exploited not only to pick-up the 60 points but as overall race winner. Angus and Graham, in their best finishes of the Series, made it an all- Wilmslow podium and Barry was 5th.
Diane McVey was first lady, 9th. overall, and for the third time in three outings took the Ladies' 60 points. Christine was second and then, in her best result of the year, Diane Bygrave was third Wilmslow lady.
James and Jeremy in 7th. and 8th. places, and only a second apart, headed League 3 followed by Diane, Allan and Ian.
Geoff took his seventh League 4 win of the season followed by Steve and Christine.
Chris restored normality with another League 5 win. Peter had quite a day. Not only did he take second place but gloriously equalled the legendary 'Rocket' Ron's over 70 club record and, the race being run by the Council, he only had to pay to OAP's entry fee of £3. In a battle over all three laps he edged-out Simon, another on the concessionary rate, into third.
Martin Wheeldon, Elspeth Gibson, Ian Smallwood and Barry Archbold are the names added to the 2011 T-shirt and mug which now total 57. Seven more have the possibility of making it at the Halloween Hellraiser.
So how's this changed Don's tables?
Damian won some time ago. He is followed by Malcolm and Rob.
Graham overtakes Andrew and Mike for 8th.
Barry in at 11th. and Ian Smallwood at 13th.
Geoff overtakes Aron for 20th.
Jarrod overtakes Matt and Dodo for 25th.
John regains the place he lost to Ian at Macclesfield for 32nd.
Chris goes level with Owen at 34th.
Clare overtakes Alan, Simon and Huma for 41st.
Alan and Simon overtake Huma for 42nd. and 43rd.
Sharon overtakes Sue for 46th.
Julie goes level with Nina at 51st..
Elspeth and Martin in at 56th. and 57th.
This was a day of superb runs for the joint leaders of the Ladies' League, but Janine was running for wine (13 bottles, 5th. lady and, she indignantly corrects me, 1st. over 40) whereas Christine got the point that makes her sole leader of the table.
Kate, Angela and Clare fill the top 5.
Julie goes level with Nina and ahead of Gail for 12th.
Elspeth comes in at 16th.
However, on six races are Louise (won all 6 she's run) and Nicky (10 bottles of wine).
The top four in League 3 are unchanged; Mick, Tony, Paul and Andy.
Ian Smallwood comes in at 5th.
With James Eyre, Steve Smith, Louise and Simon Bolton all on six races, the table could change significantly on the final day.
Geoff has won League 4
Patrick and Christine are second and third.
Andy and Gavin are tied at 4th.
Steve goes level with Janine at 6th.
Clare overtakes James Gowin for 14th.
Chris is League 5 champion with Alan second and Simon third.
Peter draws level with Soraya at 4th.
Julie catches up with Trevor for 12th.
Elspeth and Martin to come-in at 15th. and 16th.
