Warrington Road Runners 10K – Thursday 23rd June
A lovely summers evening greeted the few of us who decided not to run the Summer Series race at Shuttlingsloe (Why anyone would want to run up that hill is beyond me). The Warrington Road Runners 10K was in the Cheshire Grand Prix & the Summer Series last year when it proved itself to be a flat fast course so we arrived in confident mood. Steve had agreed to run with me to pace me to beat my previous PB and possibly to prove to me that I could go faster.
It was only around 6K I started to feel some tiredness in the legs and a stitch. I just concentrated on staying with Steve and counting down the kilometre markers until we got to 8K when I knew a good time was a possibility. We ran the 9th km slightly quicker and then when we entered the field where the finish was I decided to push on for a fast finish. A PB by 48secs (big thanks to Steve for carrying me round) followed by Simon running nearly 2mins quicker than the previous year meant it was smiles all round at the finish. A course I’d definitely recommend to anyone after a fast 10K next year!
1. M.Moorhouse (Salford Harriers) 32.22
52. Matt Atkinson 40.42 PB
56. Steve Smith 40.55
126. Simon Fenton 46.35
251 ran

Thanks for the advice: “Why anyone would want to run up that hill is beyond me”, but unfortunately I now know for myself!! I might as well get my excuses for tomorrow in early, did I mention that I’m playing football in the morning too…..

Well done Matt, pleasure pacing you round, but you’re going to have to let me know the secret of a sprint finish! Next stop is sub 40 – Trafford or Sutton, take your pick.
