Sue Hool Memorial race , Saturday 28th May

Six from Wilmslow and country member Kate Ayres made the trip to Ulverston on Saturday to run in the second Sue Hool memorial race .

Sue was previously a member of Hoad Hill Harriers prior to joining Wilmslow .

Hoad Hill is a local landmark at the top of a hill in Ulverston , and the seven ( Nick , Nina , Andy Watts , Patrick and James Grannan , Dr Kate and Kate Ayres ) were warmly greeted on arrival .

The race mirrored the format used at Wilmslow last year , with runners guessing their finish time over a flat but challenging trail course .Watches not allowed .

Runners set off in groups from 3.00pm onwards and ran straight into a gusty headwind before leaving the club for the beach and the paths , country lanes , fields and the trails that followed .

Racing on unfamiliar surroundings with no watch and without your usual peer group as benchmarks can be disorientating but equally real fun.

The course was excellent , so to the marshalling and support .

Race over , showered and to the club bar : Food was laid on and results awaited ……..

Winner for 2011 was Kate Ayres who ran within 3 seconds of her prediction …..Well done Kate !! The trophy was presented by Sue's mum.

Hoad Hill also made a presentation to one of their club members who followed the 2011 VLM by running 11 marathons in 11 days ….amazing !!

A very enjoyable day and our thanks to the excellent hospitality afforded to us . Over £300 was donated to charity .

We hope to have full results and race pictures soon.

Nick.

  1. It was a real honour to win the ladies trophy – pure luck at getting within 3 secs of my time though, especially as I rarely run on the flat these days!! As Nick said it was strange to run without a watch on an unfamiliar course and not having a clue how far one still had to run, quite refreshing! Great to see all the Wilmslow runners who turned up in Ulverston. Kate A
