Mobberley ‘Round the Runway’ 5

If Bluebell was a points feast, this was famine.
This was the day to get the bad one out of the system, or to be somewhere else. A few years ago I went trekking in the Sahara with 12 others, 3 Berbers to pitch the tent and to cook on the wood we scavenged from the desert floor, plus 3 camels to carry baggage, food and water. We flew in and out of Djerba. The island boasts no ‘must see’ sites but particularly in its town, Houmet Souk, has immense charm. Last year we went to both Libya and Syria, fortunate as the window of opportunity for tourism proved very short-lived. A new, luxury hotel was opening in Djerba at the start of this month. Disastrous timing with Tunisia’s own revolution initially discouraging bookings and Djerba’s location near the Libyan border turning bad to worse. But for us, another opportunity, with the hotel cost perhaps a sixth of what it will in a couple of years time. The sacrifice, a real sacrifice it had seemed, given the surprising rejuvenation of my running which is also likely to be short-lived, was ’Round the Runway’. And then I saw the results; 52 runners.
Damian won, Rob (Downs) was 3rd. and 1st.M45, Malcolm 4th., Jim 6th. and 1st.M40, Trevor 7th. and Andrew 10th. Two newcomers Barry and Graham maintained the WRC domination in 11th. and 12th. and Rob (Gilbert) was 18th.
Katy Green was first Wilmslow Lady, her first 60 points of this year. She was followed by Kate, Janine, Sally, Nicky and Sarah.
Mick also collected his first 60 points of 2012 in League 3, as well as 1st.M60 in the race overall. He was followed by Steve, Peter, Aron ,Tony and Matt.
Jon made it two wins in succession in League 4. Geoff added a second to his first and third, Gavin was third then Andy (Dodd), Kate and Steve (Russell).
Alan had his best-ever run to shut out the rampant Curtis in League 5, Soraya continued her rich vein for 58 points, Sharon's back strongly after London with Peter and Simon, the oldies, holding-off Melissa making her debut.
Something clearly happened to Don but he gallantly saved Gail from a lowest-ever points score.
Hopefully others can contribute the action and flavour of the day, but for the impact on the tables:-
Tony leads the Main Table followed by the ever-presents; Chris, Carolyn and Gail. But Damian, 4 races, 240 points has them in his sites. He is followed by Andrew (Whittingham), Paul (Garnett), Gareth, Paul (Norris), Andrew (Dodd), Janine, Owen, Soraya, Angela, Don and Roy.
Carolyn's still there top of the Ladies' table and Gail's still second. Janine, Soraya and Angela are waiting to pounce.
Tony heads League 3 from Paul (Garnett), Gareth, Paul (Norris), Ian (Smallwood) and Mathew.
Andrew (Dodd), promoted from 5 last year, leads League 4. He is followed by Janine, Owen Angela and Don.
Chris, Carolyn and Gail are setting the pace in League with Soraya and Roy tracking close behind.
