Cheshire Marathon Championships

The CCAA has decided that the Cheshire Road Race Championships event for 2011 will be the CHESTER MARATHON on Sunday 9th October.

As usual, there will be medals for the following Cheshire-eligible runners:
– first 3 men
– first M40
– first M50
– first 3 women
– first L35
– first L45

(This is in addition to the Cheshire RR GP, which is completely separate and is for Cheshire clubs and their first claim members only.)

  1. As a matter of interest were clubs who already promote marathons consulted about this?
Malcolm has already made useful comments about the ‘English’ event in Warrington (September).
Chester has long had a 1/2M in May. The Macc (end Sept) and Congleton (early Oct)Halfs are of long standing. Is the latter no more?
The new Chester is not even sponsored by an athletics company.

  2. Good points Ray. Also it seems strange to choose a marathon as many runners just won’t be able to do it in the middle of the racing season and others won’t want to do more than one marathon a year. Undoubtedly the best Cheshire marathon performances will be in other races like VLM. But anyway, until they sort out their rules I’m not cheshire enough to compete.
