On a beautiful sunny morning, a far cry from the comedy weather experienced at Tegg's Nose on Thursday night, we thought we'd try South Manchester Parkrun. Matt was oracle of knowledge on this event having run there before & was using this as a little speed session before a grueling 20 miler on Sunday.
It was great to see the family Mulryan there too, Jane was out for a jog as she & her son were doing the Birchwood 10k the following day – however this didn't stop her son Paul setting a great pace. I was neck & neck with him to the finish where his youth won through & he out sprinted me(gutted after gone neck & neck with Mr Stock last week & winning that battle!). I had spent the race looking over my shoulder for Mr Smith & I achieved a rare victory over him – although I to be fair he's put a hard week in since Great Warford – still a shame it wasn't a summer series! Matt ran very well also considering he's at the worst part of his marathon training. Jane's daughter, Sarah also ran very well clearly a talented running family! Martin was the holder of keys.
I must add that there was a problem with the placing chips & I was allocated 19.35 & I promise I crossed the line with Paul Mulryan at 19.10!!! I have asked the organisers to look into it & hopefully the mistake will be amended. Other than that it was a pleasantly flat route that wasn't overcrowded – a good pb course for those interested.
15. Paul MULRYAN SM 25-29 19.10
18. Louise RUDD VW35-39 19.35 (officially 19.10)
19. Steve SMITH VM45-49 19.38
22. Matt ATKINSON SM25-29 19.55
42. Sarah MULRYAN SW25-29 22.33
94 finishers
Louise
The mistake was yours speedy – sticking your barcode down your bra during the race obviously played havoc with the barcode reader!!
I won’t tell them where you stuck your barcode shall I?
Just to confirm that Louise did in fact finish at 19.10 as I was at the finish line, I think she is good for sub 19 mins on her next run on her current form.
Jane didn’t complete the run fully as she had been told that the Birchwood 10k was a fast flat course the following day. After she had completed at Birchwood she declared that it was neither fast or flat and she was disappointed with a time of 44.40.
We did try the same thing with a recommended 5k at Capenhurst near Chester on Wednesday night. This time the information was good as she got a 5k PB of 20.14.
The couse was fairly flat with a long downhill finish, maybe one to remember for next year.
