Again the rain held off until we had finished and packed away, and again we had an exciting race with one of the best fields in terms of overall quality seen for several months. And as if that wasn’t enough to make it a memorable day, we also witnessed a record breaking run that gives us a new leader of the all-time age-graded rankings!
For the fourth week in a row we had a different winner with Liam Thompson pulling away from his pursuers in the latter stages to finish 19 seconds clear in 16.24. In eight appearances Liam has never been out of the top two and this was his sixth victory. Second was Jim Pendrill, another with an impressive record of three wins and five runner-up spots. Meanwhile Malcolm Fowler consolidated last week’s victory with third place and first over-40.
However, it was fourth-placed Tom McGaff who deserves the headlines for his record breaking run. In equalling his PB from April, Tom had the satisfaction of not only revising his own M55 course record from last week with 17.21, but also producing the highest age-graded performance ever recorded in Bramhall parkrun history! Age-graded rankings enable times to be compared across all age-groups and both sexes so make for interesting reading. The ranking list can be found on the left hand side of the results page. Tom’s new score for you all to aim at is 88.57%. Notably, only a handful of athletes from other parkruns have higher scores than Tom and they all happen to be set on much flatter, faster courses than Bramhall!
The women’s race was also high quality with Louisa Wood clocking up her third victory in as many appearances in 18.02. Her fifth place overall is one of the highest ever finishes by a women, particularly impressive with such a strong field today. Louisa was followed home by two former winners, Louise Rudd and Caroline Gocer in 22nd and 57th overall.
Only two weeks until the Santa Special run on Dec 19 so remember to bring cash next week if you want tickets for the breakfast buffet at the café (£3.50 per person).
