League placings will differ as B teams are in the 2nd division

A good turn out and we were rewarded by a relatively dry St Helens after yesterdays gales. Louise making her debut for Wilsmlow bought us home in 11th and Katy Green dragged me round tho' I was never able to close the gap.Nicky and Sue were also close with Nicky edging home first.Good to see Clare H running again despite injury with Penny and Steffi making up the other counters on the B team. Nina had a good run and Monique almost (!)enjoyed it.

The men had some good tussles tho' Rob's 5th England place in the X country masters meant that Malcolm pulled away on the final lap. Tom was as strong as ever – despite having moved up a category on Tuesday.Lachlan and  Ray were joined by new dad James Wheeler to make up the team. Ian's trademark of throwing his glasses away mid-race bought a fine catch from Clare S. Gareth got away from Steve Dempsey on the final lap whilst Pete Stock's curry the night before told in the mud. Jim Yearsely having mistakenly gone to St Helen's on Saturday  came back 24 hrs later for the race proper.Tony meanwhile claimed traffic near the Trafford Centre meant he missed the start of the race…

We were encouraged by the cheers of Ellen and Juliet Downs who'd already completed their races. Clare S seemed to pop up ar every corner and Don was taking plenty of photos. Anita Wheeler (and Sophia – aged 6 weeks) were also there to cheer. Roy and Carla both looked far too well dressed to even support at X country – but were vocal in their support.  Jo Stock was also taking photos – and keeping control of the family dog.

Tom's birthday meant there was cake from Nina and Clare S. Clare had also worked with Penny on Tom's birthday ode which was a great way to finish the day.

Kate Sutton.

  1. Lots of great photos at http://www.hsphotos.co.uk/ including also Heaton Park and the swampy joys of Sherdley Park 08.
