We say it every week at the moment, but the park really was looking at its autumnal best on Saturday as the autumn tints looked glorious in the sunshine and cast beautiful reflections in the river. Indeed, right on cue, the early morning mist made way for that brilliant sunshine and perfect, cool running conditions once again. Where else would you want to be?
Barry Archbold, in only his second race, took advantage of the great conditions to score a notable victory in a close race. Last week’s winner Nathan Mayoh led at the half way point, but Barry edged ahead over the final stages to win by four seconds in 18.14. However Nathan was pleased as punch with a new PB which just goes to show that winning isn’t everything! Close behind was James Grannan who, on his 18th outing, also gained a PB in 18.31. In fact the first five home all recorded their best ever times this week along with 51 others in the race.
In the ladies race Wilmslow RC’s finest vet Kate Sutton also had a cracking race knocking 18 seconds off her PB as she fought hard with a group of male runners throughout the race which pushed her to a faster time and a PB of 21.01. Kate was a bit disappointed not to crack 21 minutes but I’m sure it won’t be long! She just held off Caroline Gocer by four seconds, while Jenna Paton made up the ladies podium with 22.17.
