One of the benefits of the race is that besides providing a benchmark of your fitness ( a weekly timed event to run any week at 9.00) is that it allows the opportunity to race yourself to form in a "safe" environment : Our own "mental conditioning" creates self doubt when we experience dips in form which can happen to the most talented of athletes. This can deepen when we race against our peer group and have a further poor race .
At Bramhall with only a small proportion of club runners ,it allows the chance to banish self doubt and remember why you do actually run……for the pleasure, freedom and fresh air: sports phschologists now accept totally that we perform at our best when we are in a relaxed state .
So turn up and run fast and run free …..Andy Lamont from Macclesfield(but who sometimes trains with us at the club)did just that and was delighted with his time .No expectations , just do what comes naturally and suprise yourself .
See you next Saturday.
Nick.
