This is a great race for a summers evening if you ever find yourself in the area. The course heads out of Banbury on increasingly rolling country roads. The hills are arranged Macc Half style with short sharp uphill slogs followed by long sweeping downhill before flattening out in the last mile for a fast finish. This makes for interesting racing and in a large field there was plenty of competition. After covering the first mile in a gasping 5:06 I still found myself trailing well behind at least 20 runners. Over the hills I gradually clawed back a few places but the leaders remained out of sight. I felt fresh enough into the final fast mile and managed to work my way past two more stragglers.
